Graphic Rating Scale
A behavioral method which lists traits or behaviors that are important for
effective performance and each employee is rated against these traits
Graphic Rating Scale

◆ Can be discrete or continuous

◆ Discrete – scale of 1-10 or of the format Poor, Below Average, Average, Above
Average, Outstanding
◆ Continuous - shows a scale (From Poor to Excellent) and the manager puts a
mark that is the best representation of the employee’s performance

◆ Various characteristics such as job knowledge or punctuality are rated by the degree
of achievement

◆ Some forms allow for additional comments

them
◆ Weighted – Weights (unknown to the supervisor) are attached to the
responses
◆ Record of performance, not an evaluation by the supervisor
