A Consolidation
Index
Sift, sort and group the information i.e. by subjects, keywords,& questions.
Identify & note different viewpoints.
Arrange work into folders; electronic or manual.
Reorganise
Interact with the information. Re-phrase it, reorganise it.
Identify concepts, main ideas, supporting ideas – both analyse and
organise
Test
Use the information to answer your research question. Is it successful?
Tools Useful Suggested use
Note cards Convenient for recording Arrange events chronology
one idea per card. Arrange hierarchically
Arrange alphabetically
Binders All information can be kept Create different folders for
in one place. each concepts
Additional divider tabs
allows efficient organisation.
Individual Documents in original forms Create a folder for each
folders can be stored. concept
Can have separate folder for
different periods
chronologically
Electronic Minimise use of paper / Sort by concept or idea
folders Storage and retrieval with Can duplicate information
ease. for different needs
• Note
Sketching and reviewing information
in visual tools, helps enforce
information in your memory.
Recalling for a presentation or an exam
is easier.
Having evaluated, selected and organised the
information, all the information collected
will now have to be ‘assembled’.
Consolidation Process:
• Apply critical and analytical thinking skills:
• Establish the links between theory and
practice.
• Link concepts together.
• Link ideas to issues.
• Consolidate information obtained from;
Literature search, Survey data, Interview.
Combine the different elements into a new
entity.
Integrate materials to create your own
information product.
Based on information, create new meaning or
understanding.
Draw conclusions to create new knowledge.
Apply new understanding to solve the task or
research problem in hand.
Presentation of project/ assignment /thesis.
Information literate
people
“engage in
independent
learning through
constructing
new meaning,
and knowledge”
Presenting information clearly and effectively is
a key skill in Information Literacy.
Types of Presentation :
Written presentation: assignments,
project papers, theses, etc.
Oral presentation: seminars, talks, meetings
etc.
• Effective, step-by-step preparation
and the method and means of presenting the
information should be carefully considered.
• Preparation is the most important part of
making a successful presentation.
Note:
Difference between written and oral presentations:
Written Presentation
• The reader of a paper can skip parts and take
a preview at the conclusions and go back
to relevant materials to understand the results.
Oral Presentation
• The listener by necessity has
to follow the order in which
the speaker presents his material.
