ADJUSTMENT OF FIRE
ADJUSTING POINT - When necessary to adjust,
the FO must select an adjusting point. In Area
missions, he must select a well-define point
at/near the center of the tgt area. In point tgt, the
adjusting point is the tgt itself.
• SPOTTING - determination of the location of
burst with respect to the adjusting point as
observed along the ot line.
• CORRECTION - placing the point of impact or
burst direct to or sufficiently closed to the
adjusting point.
• SPOTTINGS
– DEVIATION (THE NR OF MILS R/L OF
THE OT LINE)
– RANGE/DISTANCE ( WHETER THE
BURST OCCURRED BEYOND OR SHORT
OF THE TGT)
– WHEN FUZE TIME IS FIRED, THE HOB
( THE NUMBER OF MILS THE BURST IS
ABOVE THE TGT).
• CORRECTION – After a spotting has been made, the FO
must send corrections to the FDC to move the point of
impact or burst direct to or sufficiently closed to the
adjusting point.
• Deviation Correction – The lateral distance in meters that
the burst is to be moved R/L is determined by multiplying
the FO’s deviation spotting in mils by the OT Factor.
OT Factor = OT dist/1000 (rounded to nearest 1)
Example: OT dist = 4200
FO Dev Spotting = 40 R
OT Factor = 4200/1000
= 4.2
OTF =4
Dev Corr = 40 x 4 Dev Corr = LEFT 160
= 160
• RANGE CORRECTION – when making a
range correction to ADD or DROP for the
adjusting round. If the spotting is SHORT,
he will ADD, if the spotting is OVER he
will DROP. The FO must be aggressive in
the adjustment phase, he should make every
effort to correct the initial round onto the
target and enter to FFE as soon as possible.
