Scomi Group Berhad is a company listed on the Main Board


of Bursa Malaysia.

Scomi has a total of 1.018 billion shares of RM0.10 each

Scomi Engineering Bhd and its consortium partner Larsen
& Toubro secured the US$545.02million or
RM1.846billion Mumbai Monorail Project in November
2008.

Scomi Engineering and L&T are given 30 months to


complete the first Monorail project in India.

For this contract, Scomi will deliver a total of 60 cars to


make up 15 sets of 4 car trains.
On 26 January 2010, the first monorail was successfully
tested for 5 kilometres and it will be run for six months.

The test was attended by the Honorable Chief Minister


of Maharashtra State, Mr. Ashok Chavan, who flagged
off the 300-metre trial run.
The Mumbai monorail project which is expected to be
completed by 2011 is a 20-kilometers route between
Jacob Circle and Chembur with one central depot and
about 18 user-friendly and highly secured stations.

The shiny-blue Sutra rakes will have 4 coaches with scope


to extent them to six coaches.

It will have a capacity to accommodate about 600


passengers.
Provide an alternative commuting option to at least
300,000 travellers everyday.

The green aspect of the Mumbai Monorail comes in the


form of the reduced carbon emissions. Which are
estimated to be in the range of 200 tons of carbon dioxide
reduced on a daily basis.

The system also scores green points in terms of noise


pollution levels as it will be quieter than other modes of
transport.

The structure does not obstruct much sunlight and


does not trap excessive emission.

Sao Paulo Monorail Project
Scomi Engineering Berhad subsidiary Scomi Rail Berhad,
via a consortium has been chosen as one of two finalists
shortlisted for the construction of monorail project in Sao
Paulo, Brazil.
The tender submitted on February 18 2010

Worth US$1.7billion

The 23.9km monorail project, known as the


Expresso Tiradentes
Formed a consortium known as Prolongamento Linha 2
Verde.

Brazilian partner- CR Almeida SA Engenharia de


Obras.

CR Almeida is a civil engineering company based in


Curituba.

The proposed monorail is to connect Vila Prudente to


Cidade Tiradentes.

17 stations and 54 elevated trains with electric


traction.
The rail line is expected to carry at least 48,000
passengers per hour per direction or up to 510,000
passengers a day.

The winner of the contract is expected to be announced


in May.

Works expected to start in the first half of the year.

The entire monorail is targeted to be up and running in


time for football’s premier event, the World Cup, which
Brazil will be hosting in 2014.

Business to Focus on Monorail
Project
Scomi Engineering Bhd, one of the subsidiary of Scomi Group
Berhad wants to sell its machine shop business to foreign
listed multi-national corporation.
Scomi Engineering Bhd has accepted the offer from a
purchaser to exclusively negotiate the acquisition of the
company’s entire machine shop business for a total cash
consideration of US$110m on a debt-free and cash-free
basis.
The disposal of the machine shop business was in line with
its business strategy to position itself as an urban
transportation solutions provider focusing on monorail
solutions.

Scomi would intensify its focus on its core engineering


activities, strengthen its research and development
initiatives, and invest in new technologies for public
transportation products.

Scomi Group now is scouting for investment


opportunities in Egypt, especially in transportation and oil
industries and the manufacturing of trains and buses.

At the moment, Scomi n Group Berhad focus on
transportation and logistics sector around the world to
increase their earnings and profits. Besides Mumbai
monorail project that is expected to be completed at the
end of this year, Scomi Group also eyes Indian local
partner for other Monorail Project in India. Cities like Delhi
and Bangalore would soon call for new tenders.

Apart from that, bagging Sao Paulo monorail project is


expected to provide a boost for Scomi Engineering’s
earnings. Sales for Machine Shop Business to a multi-
national corporation also can give some revenue to Scomi
and this big amount of money can be used to cover costs
that will be incurred by Scomi for their monorail project..
