Creating network configuration file (1/2)

To import a text delimited network configuration file, the

following procedures must be completed.

1. Prepare Network configuration file- The network configuration

will be a text delimited file(.csv format). The file must contain
certain parameters.

A sample of a network configuration file is shown below.

SiteNo SectorID Longitude Latitude Radius Sector Width Azimuth Model LAC CI Ant High Terrain Tilt TYPE BSIC BCCH
Site1 Site1_O 120.9445 -40.88181 0.2 360 360 Repeater 16761 40422 62 0 0 0 60 85

Creating network configuration file (2/2)

2. Set General Configuration- After the

network configuration file is well
formatted, start defining the column
delimiters and create mapping between
the source file and TEMS Discovery's
internal parameters.

3. Create Mapping- Create mapping

between source fields and TEMS
Discovery's internal data structure by
dragging-and-dropping a source field
from the list into the spreadsheet on the
right side.

Instant chart
The Instant Chart View
provides a convenient way
to view the instant
information of the selected
metrics with respect to a
group-by key metric.

Features include:
• Multiple configurations
• Instant bar chart view with optional
Table View
• Multiple chart space and multiple
metrics
• Fixed or metric-based coloring

Table view
 Table View provides a
tabular display of multiple
metrics and events

 Contains mandatory fields

(time, date, latitude and
longitude).

 Other metrics/events can

be added as required.

 Can be exported to Excel

or text delimited files.

Histogram
 Histogram View is for graphical
display of metric data showing the
proportion of data that falls into
each specific plot band.

 Metric data can be shown as a

bar graph, a 2D pie chart, or a 3D
pie chart.

 In the Histogram view options,

user can select the type of the
statistics attributes to be displayed
along with optional PDF and CDF
data.

Time series chart
Time-series Chart displays how the values of radio parameters evolve
over time.
Several parameters can be plotted in the same chart to enable quick
inspection of correlation

indication of a linear/nonlinear
relationship between two Good RSCP

 Consider the plot shown here. It

shows a correlation between
ranked CPICH RSCP and
ranked Ec/Io for a WCDMA data Poor RSCP and

messages
The Message View contains two panels. The left-hand panel is a
spreadsheet that lists the messages in time sequence, and the right-
hand panel displays detailed information of the selected message at
the left.

Messages can be filtered based on device and/or frame like WCDMA

NAS signaling, WCDMA RRC signaling.

TEMS Discovery Device Training, July 2016 © Ascom 92

Message flow diagram
It displays the user-defined
message flow cycle in diagram
form.
A message cycle can be built from
the Layer 3 signaling messages
listed in the message summary
view, based on the user-defined
message cycle configuration.
In the configuration define the start
of event and end of event.
Also displays the time delay pair
between any selected pair of
message/event.

Multi-Dimension Statistic View
 Multi dimension Statistic View
displays on-demand statistical
data for multiple metrics in
multiple user-selected
dimensions.

 The user can filter data by using

the built-in dimensions device
attributes, time and date, UDR,
cell configuration or user defined
dimension.

 Statistical aggregation methods

including mean, max, min, count,
standard deviation etc.

Problem summary view
 This view summarizes device
problems based on predefined
or user-configurable problem
sets like dropped calls,
handover failures, etc.

 Can select either all devices or

only the one with problems

 All problem-related information

can be saved to Excel.

TEMS Discovery Device Training, July 2016 © Ascom 96

Creating problem summary view
Go to Tools -> Report Template
Builder/ Problem Set Builder.
Two columns are needed. The first
column defines problem
description, and the second
defines the problem data source.
(i.e. metric value source).
Select Report type as single value
and description as Count.
Save it as problem set.
Now the problem set will be available
in the Problem Set Definition drop
down menu in the Problem

Creating power point/ word doc report (1/2)
TEMS Discovery has a feature in the
report template builder which allows
user to create a Microsoft Power
Point or Word document report
directly.

Creating in template builder

• Select and drop the metrics in the template
area.
• In the report type options window, select the
settings as per requirement.
• Add a Unique ID to that metric as shown
here.
• Save
TEMSthe report
Discovery as usual.
Device Training, July 2016 © Ascom 111
Creating power point/ word doc report (2/2)
• Now open a new blank power point presentation.

• Reference the metric using the unique ID that

was used while creating report template.
Example: {image:RSCP1.jpg}.

• Save this presentation with the same name as

that of the report and save it in the folder path
shown here. The path can be found in the
Configuration-> options menu. Go to the
reporting template folder at this path and save
the presentation.

• Select the project now, select the generate report

option and choose the report file (.xlsx file). The
presentation file will be created.
 In similar way, word document report can be
created too.

Automatic data processing (ADP) (1/5)
 ADP is an advanced configurable function that monitors
newly arrived drive test data, automatically imports the data,
generates reports, deposits the reports to a specified location,
and/or sends the reports via email.

 Creating a new ADP task is a four step process

New task
button

Automatic data processing (ADP) (2/5)
Step 1: File Monitor
• Here, the user specifies the
folders to be monitored by this
ADP task.
• The folders can either be
local file folder or from a FTP
server
• If you are creating an ADP
task only for output purposes,
then skip this step.

When you select/unselect a tree node on one tree, TEMS Discovery

will automatically select or unselect the corresponding node on the
other tree if there is one on the other tree.

Automatic data processing (ADP) (4/5)
Step 3: Output Scheduler
• In this step, you can define the
scheduling parameters as per
requirements.
• For example, user can define the
schedule date range or the
schedule time to monitor the project
folder.
• The user can also define the output
data grouping options such as
output frequency, output per device
etc.

Automatic data processing (ADP) (5/5)
 Step 4: Output type
• In this step, user can specify
whether the output data is to be
sent to Batch PDF files and/or
Report files.

• User also have the option to

send the output file to the email
recipients specified in the Email
template.
