OBJECTIVE
Adsorption of Heavy Metals from water using bio-material (Bamboo Stick) by Batch
Adsorption .

Study the effect of parameters on adsorption .

I. pH
II. Contact Time
III. Temperature
IV. Adsorbent dose
V. Concentration
VI. Stirrer speed
OUR WORK

 Preparation of adsorbent.

- De-hulling of Material
- Washing with Tap- Water than Distilled Water.
- Dry the material in oven at 60℃
- Now grind material and prepared it in powder form.
- After this again wash and dry it.

 Preparation of solution-

- Prepared Stock solution of 1000 ppm of Chromium by Potassium-Di-Chromet.

- From this Stock-Solution we prepared 50ppm Solution for experiment.

 Carried out experiments.

Determination of Optimum pH

From previously prepared 50 ppm solution we took six samples each of 100 ml and
maintained pH from 2 to 7 (pH is maintained using NaOH or HCl solution).

During determination of pH all other parameters were keep constant.

 From previously prepared adsorbent we took 6 samples of adsorbent each of 0.5 gm.

 Set all parameters of Brunswick Benchtop Incubator as follow.

Temperature - 25℃
Stirring Speed - 150 rpm
Contact time - 2 hrs.
 Mix the adsorbent in solution and put it into Brunswick Benchtop Incubator for 2 hrs.

 After this we conduct UV test to Determine the Adsorbance quantity of the sample.

DETERMINATION OF OPTIMUM CONTACT TIME

From previously prepared 50 ppm solution we took six samples each of 100 ml and
maintained pH 2. (pH is maintained using NaOH or HCl solution).

During determination of contact time all other parameters were keep constant.

 From previously prepared adsorbent we took 6 samples of adsorbent each of 0.5 gm

and mix them.

 Set all parameters of Brunswick Benchtop Incubator as follow.

Temperature - 25℃
Stirring Speed - 150 rpm

 each sample is taken out after different contact time.

 After this we conduct UV test to Determine the Adsorbance quantity of the sample.

UV SPECTROSCOPY
PRINCIPLE- UV absorption spectroscopy is the measurement of attenuation of
beam of light after it passes through a sample or after reflection from a sample
surface.
Adsorption measurements can be at a single wavelength or over an extended
spectral range. (200-800 nm).
For Chromium it is

Solution Required For UV test

1. 3M H2So4
2. DPC Solution.
3. Distilled Water
4. Sample
Further Work

 Similarly perform the experiment conducted previously for pH and Contact time now we have
to perform other parameters on optimum pH and Contact time.

-Temperature
- Adsorbent Dose
- Concentration
- Stirrer Speed

 Adjust data in adsorption isotherm.
