Comprehensive Description of the Researcher
THESIS/DISSERTATION WRITING
A graduate student who is working on thesis/dissertation is required to enrol
thesis/dissertation writing every term.
The researcher has an option to choose his/her adviser from among the members of the
Dissertation Committee subject to the approval of the dean.
Function of Adviser
Responsible for advising/supervise the student in the preparation of the
thesis/dissertation.
Guide the researcher in doing the questionnaire.
Must set consultation hours for discussion and making critical comments and suggestions on
the manuscript draft.
Composition of Panel Members
Thesis Writing
4 full time faculty members who are Master’s degree holder and have relevant experience
in a writing a thesis or a scholarly research paper.
1 External Member - specialized in the field/topic of the researcher
Dissertation Writing
5 full time faculty members who are Doctorate degree holder and have relevant
experience in a writing a dissertation or a scholarly research paper.
1 External Member –specialized in the field/topic of the researcher
Thesis/Dissertation Oral Defense
Once the Adviser deems the manuscript satisfactory, he/she must request for
the approval of the thesis/dissertation oral defense with the exact date, time,
and venue.
The Adviser writes to the Dean thru Channel, at least a month before the
requested defense date, formally requesting the scheduling of the oral defense
and the appointment of the members of the panel.
Within 10 working days, and upon the approval of the Dean of the proposed
schedule and constitution of the panel, The Graduate School Office makes the
official appointment of all members of the panel including external member.
The submission of the thesis/dissertation drafts to all members of the panel
including the Dean, is covered by the 15 – Day Rule which states that “At least
fifteen (15) calendar days must elapse, from the date the members of oral
defense panel receive their copies of the thesis/dissertation, to the date of the
oral defense”. The rule will ensure that all the members of the oral defense
panel will have sufficient time to study the manuscript before the oral
defense.
The Oral Defense
In conducting the oral defense, any of the member can chaired the panel. The selection of the
chair for the oral defense shall be done by concensus before the oral defense begins.
