Understanding of forests, benefit f unction and
forest type

The definition of forests in general is to mention a

region or area evergrow by dense trees (both type and
different types). However,a collection of these trees will
only be considered forest if it has the ability to create a
unique climate and condition (different from the outside).
Definition o.f forerts according to
experts dangler (1930)
According to dangler, forests area a collection of trees
that grow tighty and cover a large area that can create a micro
climate (small) with a typical ecological conditions and
certainly different from the outside area.
Law no.5(1967) in the act has been mentioned that the
forest is a field for the growth of trees, which is a living
community of biodfersity with is environment.
Spurr
According to spurr, forests area a place of fellowship fo
canimals and plants within an association.Which with the
support of the environment then creates an ecological system
where the living being that exist in it are interdepent with each
other.
B.Forest funcftion
It is no secret that forests have a very important
functioning role for a living beings, with the exception of
humans. Some key forests function are as follows:
1. Aesthetic function
The forest is a beautiful work of nature. Therefore, forests
serve cas one of the most visited destination to calm
themselves or just enjoy beauty it offers.
2. Orological function
One of the most impotant functions of the forest is
orological or to prevent erosion. The existence of forest can
withstand soil layers so as not drift during floods or heavy
rains.Besides being able to prevent erosion, the forest can
also keep the top layer of soil.
3. Climatological function
Forests have climatological functions or regulate the
climate. With the forest, the humidity and air temperature can
withstand soil layers so as not to drift during floods or heavy
rains.Besides being able to prevent erosion,The forest can also
keep the top layer of soil.
4. Hydrological Function
Forests have a hydrological function, whish acts as a water
store and then regulate the circulation in form of springs.
5. Strategis Functions
In addition, the forest is also very useful as a plce of
defense.For example,as a shelter or a fortress when a war
occurred.However,these defense-defense forests have been
secretly elected by the state Defense agency. This is done for the
benefit of nation and state.
C. Forest Benefit
The benefits of forests for human lifer are
enormous, with the existence of the forerts then the
survival can still run in balance, below are some of
the benefits of forets for human life:
1. Biodiversity
The biodiversity contained within the forest area
is in fact larger than that of other ecosystems on earth,
In this case, if not forest have become a vessel that
holds the survival of biodiversity like plants to grow
and interact with each other.
2. Preservation of Germplasm plasma
Nutfah plasma is a raw material that plays an
important role for future survival. Simple example is to
meet the needs of clothing, food, shelter, industry and
medicine.
3. Providing oxgen (02)
The large number of trees contained in the forest will
increase the amount of oxgen supply is large enough for
the sake of life.
4. Absorb carbon dioxide (CO2)
Areas that have large areas of forest will certainly
feel more cool, beautiful and healthy. This is because the
poisonous gas that threatens human healt if inhaled as
result of industrial process will be absorbed by the forest.
5. Climate
Forest can be a bulwark to tackle extreme climate
change. One is to reduce harmful gases and provide
oxygen supply
6. Overcoming Inundation
Some tree species have the ability to
evatranspirate, which is the process of water through
the release info the atmosphere.
7. Prevent Erision
Foreasts have a large role in the prevention of
erision caused by water.
D. Types of Forests

In order to provide convenience to humans to be

able to recognize the nature and characteristic of
forests, then foresters have categorized in accordance
with the typical appearance of each forest. Below are
the kinds of forests that serve as a reference:
1. Based of origin
If examined from its origin, then the forest comes
from shoots, seeds, and also a mixture of shoots.
• Forests whose origins from buds have a low forest
title. The size of the tree buds have a low forest title
• Forest derived from seeds has a high forest
designation
• Mixed forest is also referred to as a medium forest.
2. Based on how to grow back
Forest can be grouped info several kinds based on
the wa regerenation, including:
• Natural regeneration forest.
• Mixed reforestation forest is where the regrowth or
regeneration of forest is caused by humans and
nature.
3. Based on the type arrangement when viewed
based on the composition of species, then the
forest is the divided into two groups of similar or
pure forest and mixed forest.
Similar forest generally consist of the same type.
This forest can develop naturally because of the
aggressive tree species and climatic properties.
• Mixed forest is a consisting of a variety of tree
specie in it.
4. Based on age
5. Based on geographical location
6. Based on the nature of season
7. By tree type
8. Based on soil condition
E. Type of forests typein
In Indonesia alone, forests are grouped into
various types. Here the explanations:
1. Based on Biogeography
2. Based on climate
