Introduction
• Landfill methane is produced when organic
materials are decomposed by bacteria under
anaerobic conditions
• Methane production varies greatly from landfill to
landfill depending on site-specific characteristics.
• Problem regarding methane including air pollution
and global warming.
• Methane collection is important to protect
environment and it its also excellent energy
alternative.
Problem Statement
• Methane gases are responsible for global
warming in phenomena.
• Methane is produced by biological activity in
the landfill and the emission has increased with
the large number of waste dumped in the
landfill.
• Methane gases should be collected properly
and it has potential economic values as energy
source.
Objectives
• Determined the production of methane gases
at Sg. Sedu, Banting landfill.

• To analyze the economic value of the methane

gas collected based on electricity rate
calculation.
Scope of Study
• landfill area at Sg. Sedu, banting, Selangor.

• Measurement of methane concentration will

be done for three(3) time in the duration of
one(1) month.
Significant of Study
• amount of methane gas produced at landfill
can be determined.
• stabilized or even declining levels of global
atmospheric concentrations of methane.
• promote energy security and improve the
environment condition
Literature Review
AUTHOR YEAR FINDINGS
Global 2002 Solid waste can be defined as the useless and unwanted
Environment products in the solid state derived from the activities of
Centre, GCE and discarded by society.
Alberta 1999 Methane is a colourless, odourless, tasteless, flammable
Environmental gas that burns with a pale, faintly luminous flame.
Protection
Nick Hopwood 2010 Greenhouse gases naturally blanket the Earth and keep it
and Jordan about 33 degrees Celsius warmer than it would be without
Cohen these gases in the atmosphere.  This is called the
Greenhouse Effect.
Harlan 2010 Methane gas will be produced by anaerobic decomposition
Bangston if waste organic matter is simply kept in a closed space
without oxygen present.

Expected Outcome
• Methane production in Sg. Sedu landfill is
expected to be determined.
• Economical value of methane gases will be
calculated as alternative energy to produce
electricity.
