( Darkness can simply be put as partly or completely

without light.
( It could also be described as opaque.
( Hence its existence in a room or else where (indoor)
makes the indication of any object very difficult, since
the eye cannot see through.
( For example, when someone is in a room and suddenly
the light in the room goes off or darkness falls, it
becomes very uneasy for the person to indicate/locate
the exit/entrance.

( Hence, this project aims to design and construct an

automatic exit indicator with alarm which would be
placed at the top of the exit.

ù It is very difficult for someone to indicate the exit when

darkness falls suddenly in a room.

ù Because of this, a lot of time is wasted going round a

room trying to locate the exit/entrance.

ù An accident can occur as a result of the struggle to

indicate/locate the exit/entrance.
4 |

ith this device positioned at the top of the exit, the

simultaneous action of the lighting and the alarming
system will;

ù Create the awareness of the existence of an

exit/entrance

ù Help reduce the time used in indicating/locating

the exit/entrance

ù Help eliminate the occurrence of an accident as a

result of the struggle to indicate the exit

ù The circuit would be supplied by 12V D.C. battery. A

reference voltage of 6V and a variable input of 5.5V would
be connected to inverting and non- inverting parts of the
two comparators respectively.

ù Under normal circumstance when there is light in the room,

the reference voltage Vref will be greater than the
variable/input Vv since the resistance of the LDR will not
increase and hence resulting in a low output of the
comparators.

ù This low voltage output will be insufficient to switch the

transistors ON and hence ,the circuit will be of in the
presence of light.
OPERATION CONT¶D.

ù In darkness, the resistance of the LDR increases, thereby

increasing the variable/input voltage to the non-inverting
parts of the comparators.

ù This results in a high output voltage at the comparator

which switches ON the transistors.

ù Hence, the alarm and lighting circuits are switched ON

simultaneously, indicating the exit.
