SIMPLIFIED RAMAYANA SCRIPT
Narrator: It was a bright and beautiful day in Ayodhya, the capital of Kosala. Dasaratha, the King of
Kosala, felt like the time was right for him to step down from the throne and appoint a new king. He was
blessed with four sons from his three wives. Kaushalya, the eldest, gave birth to Rama. Kaikeyi,
Dashratha’s favorite, gave birth to Bharata. Sumitra, the youngest, had twins named Lakshman and
Shatrugan. Dashrath’s choice as successor was his eldest son Rama, husband of Sita, destroyer of
demons, and friend of the goodhearted.
The preparations for the coronation ceremony had been made, and
today Rama would officially be anointed as the next King of Kosala. King Dasaratha had no idea what was
about to happen…
Kaikeyi: I cannot wait for Rama’s coronation today! Manthara, my dearest maid, why don’t you look as
happy as the rest of the kingdom?
Manthara: You fool! The throne should belong to your son, Bharata. You’re Dasaratha’s favorite queen.
But if Rama becomes king, you will become a nothing! Don’t forget Dasaratha’s promise to you from back
in the day. Use it now!
Manthara exits, Kaikeyi ponders, and Dasaratha enters.
Kaikeyi: Dasaratha, I once saved you on the battlefield, and you promised me two wishes. I haven’t used
them yet, but I want to use them now.
 1.BACKGROUND OF ORIGINAL SCRIPT
The Ramayana is one of the greatest Hindu Epics of all time and dates back to thousands of years. It
literally translates to Rama’s journey and tells the story of Lord Rama. (Avatar of the God Vishnu) and his
wife Sita. (An avatar of goddess Laksmi). Ramayana teaches about human behaviour, explores in depth
the concept of dharma, and provides guidance on living righteously. The Exile of Ayodhya, a part of
Ramayana clearly gives us the moral of life. Which is how a human would think or react on the life
opportunity. This part of Ramayana was about the King of Kosala, Dasaratha. He felt that it was the time
for him to step down the throne and has to appoint a new king. He was blessed with four sons from his
three wives which are Kausalya, the eldest gave birth to Rama. Kaikeyi , gave birth to Bharata and
Sumitra the youngest wife gave birth to Lakshan and Shatrugan. King Dashrath’s choice as successor
was his eldest son Rama, husband of Sita, destroyer of demons, and friend of the good hearted. But King
Dashrath’s second wife Kaikeyi would not agree with her husband’s decision as she would expect her son
Bharata to be the next King of Kosala. Kaikeyi would also wish for Rama to be banished to the forest for
14 years so that he does not challenge Bharata’s authority.
 2.REASON FOR CHOOSING

Reason of choosing this script is to show the audience that this scenario is a common
thing that is happening almost everywhere. It is definitely a big challenge to us all , to
balance up our lives from wants and needs. The Exile of Ayodhya clearly tells us that ,
though Rama is the most eligible person to be the next King of Kosala , still there are
too many struggles that he has to go through to get what is deserve to be given. In our
daily life, im sure least once we have all become Rama, or Kaikeyi in making
decisions.
 3.OBJECTIVES IN THE ADAPTATION

a. To make it easier for us to understand and relate the story to the current life
style.
b. To make the storyline even more interesting and closer to our lives (Show the
message of the story in a modern way.
c. To challenge ourselves by learning and using the techniques that we learned
during the class for adaptations.
d. To share the experiences that happened in our lives.
 4.PROPOSED TREATMENT
• Setting : Office environment, House, Road
• Time : Morning ( 7am-8am), Day time ( 2pm-3pm), Night (10pm-11pm)
• Characters :
1. Ahmad as Rama
2. Kassim as Bharata
3. Mr. Kumar (The Boss) as the King of Kosala, Dasaratha
4. Siti as Kaikeyi (Kassim’s mum)
• Three male characters as colleagues who are working in the office. This three
colleagues would represent Rama, Bharata and Kaikeyi in this story. King
Dashrath will be imitated by Mr. Kumar as the CEO of the company. There will
be a discussion on the higher position and promotion for the best working staffs,
and this promotion will increase the salary and image/reputation of a staff.
During the discussion, Ahmad name will be voted by the most as the well
deserving staff. Ahmad as (Rama) will be needing and expecting for the
promotion because he needs to use money for his dad’s medical expenses. At the
same time, Rama has also been working a lot and he was also been nominated for
the promotion interview. But Siti as Kalkeyi, mother of Kassim would force her
son to fight for the position too as he was also a hard working staff in the
company. Will Kassim still would want to fight after knowing the situation of
Ahmad and his father’s condition?

5. Ahmad reached as well
6. Ahmad on the bed,
forcing him self to sleep.
7. Kassim wakes up for his work
8. Kassim takes his breakfast
done by the mother Siti and at
the same time he is discussing
about giving the promotion to
Ahmad.
9. Siti gets angry by the
Kassim’s stupid decision
10. Kassim got angry by the
mothers evil thoughts
11. He leaves the house by
slamming the door.
12. Mr.Kumar thinking to who
should he give the promotion
since he can only choose one
due to the financial situation.
13. Board meeting are
arranged to discuss
about the promotion

15. Ahmad and kassim
are in the board
meeting
16. kassim thinks about
the mothers words
17. While Ahmad thinks
about the father’s
condition

they’ll waiting for
Mr.Kumar’s answer

Ahmad is justifing that
he should get that.

raising his hand.

28. But Kassim gets abit
nervous as he thinks
about the mother

relieved when he thinks
about the father

comes out of the lift
