GUIDELINES
• It should only contain one Idea
Ex: Magellan was given support by King
Ferdinand of Spain along with his wife
Queen Isabel to circumnavigate the world
under Spain’s flag and had given him five
ships namely Trinidad, Concepcion,
Santiago, San Antonio and Victoria.
Better Ex: Magellan’s expedition was
supported by King Ferdinand of Spain.
GUIDELINES
• Do not use opinion-based statements
unless it was attributed to somebody
Ex: Pres. Duterte’s war on drugs is effective.
Better Ex: Many Surveys show that Pres.
Duterte’s war on drugs is effective.
Best Ex: Surveys A,B, and C show that
Pres. Duterte’s war on drugs is effective.
GUIDELINES
• Avoid using negatives or double negatives.
• If unavoidable, highlight, underline or bold
the negative word.
Ex: The Daang Matuwid is not a program of
Pres. Duterte.
Better Ex: The Daang Matuwid is not a
program of Pres. Duterte.
Best Ex: The Daang Matuwid is a program of
Pnoy.
GUIDELINES
• Avoid specific determiners (estimates) which
appears to make the statement true (some,
sometimes, may) and false (never, always,
all, none).
Ex: Some Filipino’s became aids to Spanish
conquerors.
Ex: Magellan never befriended any Filipino
Leader.
Ex: Magellan befriended all Filipino Leader.
Ex: None of the Spanish Governor Generals were
liked by Filipinos.
GUIDELINES
• Directions should indicate where or how the
students should mark their answer
Ex:
Directions:
Write your answer before the number in each item.
Write T if the statement is true and F if the statement
is false.
• NOTE: Avoid confusions such as write F if the
statement is True and T if the statement is False.
You are gauging your students learning and not if
they are reading and following instructions FOR
PETE’S SAKE!
OTHER GUIDELINES
• Avoid statements directly taken from the
textbook.
• Avoid arranging the statements in a logical-
patterned order such as (TTFFTTFFTT,
TTTFFFTTTF, TFTFTFTFTF, TTTTTFFFFF)
• The number of items should (as much as
possible) be the same with the number of
false items.

ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGES
IN SOCIAL STUDIES SUBJECTS
ADVANTAGES
• Covers a lot of contents in a short span of time-
preferable for History.
• Easier to prepare compared to multiple-choice
(which has a lot of Do’s and Don’t specially for
names, places and dates and Matching type of
tests- which may be very wordy and too
homogenous (not inter/multidisciplinary) and
could cover very few contents.
• Easier to score (Like essay- very subjective and
is dependent on the raters judgment)
DISADVANTAGES
• Limited only to low level of thinking skills
(knowledge, comprehension and recall)
• The students get to have high probability of
getting the correct answer (50%) as compared to
the (25%) of Multiple choice.
• Encourages guessing.
