 Legs
• The legs of adult flamingos are longer than the flamingo's body,
measuring between 80 to 125 cm (31.5-49 in.), depending on the
species.
• The ankle is located about halfway up the leg.
• The knee is located close to the body and is not

• Andean and James' flamingos have three toes and no hallux.
• Webbing between the toes help the bird in swimming and stirring up
food.
• Coloration of the feet and legs is the same.
Wings

• An adult flamingo's bill is black, pinkish, or cream-colored. Coloration varies
according to species.
• The bill is adapted for filter feeding.
• James' and Andean flamingos have a deep, narrow trough-like lower
mandible, which allows them to eat small foods such as algae and diatoms.

 REPRODUCTION
• When Flamingos are about 6 years of age they are ready to start mating.
• The parents take turns incubating and protecting the egg after it is in
the nest. It will take from 27 to 31 days for the offspring to be born.
They offspring have feathers of gray or white, not the pinks and reds
that people expect. That occurs later in life though due to their diet.
Typically it will take about 3 years for the change to occur.

POPULATIONS
• Over 7000 flamingos were reported to be present in 1994 by European
Endangered Species Program (EEP) office on a survey represented by 228
responding zoos all over the world.
• Even though the captivated number is high, the species is still considered
vulnerable due to unnatural changes in its habitat, majorly caused by mining
business and human disturbances and non-eco-friendly behaviors.
