In 1987, the World Commission on Environment and Development
(WCED) published its report Our Common Future and gave the
definition of sustainability.

“Sustainability” which means, to meet the needs of


the present without compromising the ability of
future generations to meet their own needs’.

Therefore, we have to think and act today in terms of
intergenerational ethics so that our next generations will have at
least the same conditions we enjoy, to live their own lives.

This definition was also adopted by the United Nations


Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in 1992
in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and has been playing a guiding role ever
since in dealing with issues such as…
