Objectives
● To provide an environmental friendly and comfortable
condition transportation system for students who
travel by foot.
● To increase the bus efficiency in University of Malaya.
● To reduce the usage of student’s vehicles in University
of Malaya.

Problem 1
5

▸ Diesel fuel used by UM shuttle bus

Problem 2
6

▸ Low punctuality & efficiency of shuttle bus service in UM

Problem 3
7

▸ Weather condition restricts students from walking to faculty

Solution 1: Improving the bus Transportation system

1)Changing UM bus to hybrid buses

▹ A combination of gas & diesel fueling
▹ 20 buses for a rough cost of RM62,000 for the
hardware & workmanship.
9
Solution 1: Improving the bus Transportation system

2) Installing digital LED system with GPS for bus

time arrival
▹ Total cost around RM21,000 including 20
variable message board, GPS checking system
and workmanship.
10
Solution 2: Building Roofing System on Pedestrian walkway

Roofing System around the area where it

connects the faculty to the college
Building a completely covered wal

Constraints

Constraint 1:
If we are adding new buses here in UM, it would just increase the
traffic congestion and also the old buses would be put to waste.
Constraint 2:
Pedestrian daily routine in walking through the walkway would be
affected for a considerably long period of time if we are building the
roofing system.
Constraint 3:
UM are already lacking of money even in the sense of refurbishment
of our facilities in our Engineering Faculty lab.

Suggestion

3. If the number of bus station increase and allocate in many spots and also
improve the efficiency of bus system in UM, will you choose to ride on the bus to
class instead of taking own transport? *
14
Recommendation

Recommendation 1:
While UM in 2017 will be suffering a budget cut of 27% receiving only
RM473 million by the government, UM has its own way in gaining
revenue by operating joint-ventures between public & private
institutions,e.g. International University of Malaya Wales(IUMW).
Besides this, we can also rely on alumni contribution in terms of
money or their workforce.
Recommendation 2:
Refurbishment & operation should only be done during semester
break to avoid the disturbance of students’ event, daily routine or so.
Besides that, it is also easier to control the traffic during that time.

Conclusion
● Rome is not built in a day and the same goes to this.

● We can’t do this alone and it requires everyone’s

collaborative effort in making this happen
