Avid/WICOR Strategies
AVID One-Pager

During the first week students were encouraged to complete an AVID-One Pager independently.
Students had been learning about polar bears and were to design their paper all about polar bears.
They could draw or write sentences, but they were required to use their best handwriting.
They had to use their entire page and had to incorporate colors.
Mrs. Ingle informed the students that she could not spell for them; they must sound out the words they wanted to use.

Students were challenged to complete something

they had never done before, but were
fully capable of doing. It is important for students to
have tangible goals!
Mrs. Ingle had circle lights on
her white board that had
different levels: Level 0: Silent,
Level 1: Whisper, Level 2:
Partner, and Level 3: Table.
When she gave students an
assignment, she would turn on
one of the levels and the
students were challenged to be

BY-ND silent or only whisper. She
rewarded students with
“Bulldog Bucks” and table
points.
Mrs. Ingle inspired me to create a positive, safe, and quiet classroom environment by:

• Positive Reinforcement
• Rewards
• Specific consequences to bad actions
• Tangible Goals
• Organization
• Time Management
