• First Graders at John

• Age 6-8
• Range of reading skills

Solutions
• My solution is to teach them 7 reading strategies:
1. Learn to look at pictures
2. Make each phoneme sounds
3. Stretch out the sound
4. Change the vowel sound (from short to long vowel or visa versa)
5. Reread the sentence
6. Break up the words into word families
7. Use context clues to figure out the unknown word
