MATTHEW 6:25-34
25 “That is why I tell you not to worry about
everyday life—whether you have enough food and
drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more
than food, and your body more than clothing?
26 Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest
or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father
feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to
him than they are? 27 Can all your worries add a
single moment to your life? 28 “And why worry
about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field
and how they grow. They don’t work or make their
clothing, 29 yet Solomon in all his glory was not
dressed as beautifully as they are.
MATTHEW 6:30-34
30 And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers
that are here today and thrown into the fire
tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you
have so little faith? 31 “So don’t worry about these
things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we
drink? What will we wear?’ 32 These things dominate
the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly
Father already knows all your needs. 33 Seek the
Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously,
and he will give you everything you need.34 “So
don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring
its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
JAMES 1:2-17
2 Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles
of any kind come your way, consider it an
opportunity for great joy. 3 For you know
that when your faith is tested, your
endurance has a chance to grow. 4 So let
it grow, for when your endurance is fully
developed, you will be perfect and
complete, needing nothing.
JAMES 1:5-8
5 If you need wisdom, ask our generous God,
and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke
you for asking. 6 But when you ask him, be
sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not
waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as
unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown
and tossed by the wind. 7 Such people should
not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
8 Their loyalty is divided between God and the
world, and they are unstable in everything
they do.
JAMES 1:9-12
9 Believers who are poor have something to
boast about, for God has honored them. 10 And
those who are rich should boast that God has
humbled them. They will fade away like a little
flower in the field. 11 The hot sun rises and the
grass withers; the little flower droops and falls,
and its beauty fades away. In the same way, the
rich will fade away with all of their
achievements.12 God blesses those who
patiently endure testing and temptation.
Afterward they will receive the crown of life that
God has promised to those who love him.
JAMES 1:13-17
13 And remember, when you are being tempted,
do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never
tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone
else. 14 Temptation comes from our own desires,
which entice us and drag us away. 15 These
desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin
is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
16 So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and
sisters. 17 Whatever is good and perfect is a gift
coming down to us from God our Father, who
created all the lights in the heavens. He never
changes or casts a shifting shadow.
JAMES 4:13-17
13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow
we are going to a certain town and will stay
there a year. We will do business there and
make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your
life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the
morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s
gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord
wants us to, we will live and do this or that.”
16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own
pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.
17 Remember, it is sin to know what you ought
to do and then not do it.
