I. How Does Technology
Affect Reading
Instruction?
The Internet is the catalyst for all
the changes. As a result, the
definition of literacy has evolved
as well.
Definition of Literacy (Leu, 1997)

First, being literate now means

knowing how to surf the Web, or
finding the information necessary to
complete a task.
Second, children need to acquire the
tools to keep up with the ever-changing
world of technology.
Third, using the Internet entails
teaching students to analyze the
information they find with a critical eye.
II. Why Should
Teachers Use
Technology in Their
Classrooms?
Teachers are providing
opportunities that bridge the
digital divide.
Students will benefit as they
gain skills that will be
required of them as they enter
the job market.
III. How Can Teachers
Use Technology in
Their Reading
Program?
Concurrent classroom and
