Influence of monsoon circulation on wind

climatology

ü mest wind speed during south-west monsoon

i.e., from may to September

ü Low wind speed during south-east monsoon i.e., from

November to march

ü cind is free and with modern technology it can be captured
efficiently.
ü Once the wind turbine is built the energy it produces does not
cause green house gases or other toxic pollutants.
ü Remote areas that are not connected to the electricity power
grid can use wind turbines to produce their own supply.
ü cind turbines are available in a range of sizes which means a
vast range of people can use them. Single households to small
towns and villages can make good use of range of wind
turbines available today.
ü cind energy requires relatively low maintenance .
ü cind energy can share its land use with other activities such
as grazing cattle & agriculture.

ü cind turbines create noise from the turning of the blades.
ü cind turbines cause loss of habitat to wildlife due to the
disturbance from its noise, movement of blades, subtle
food chain changes and electromagnetic fields that in
some animal species affects their sonar systems.
ü Like most tall non-natural structures, wind turbines have
a negative impact on birds, which can be killed or injured
through collision with the rotating blades.

Onshore wind power potential has been assessed at 45,000 Mc assuming !% of
land availability for wind power generation in the potential areas. However,
technical potential is limited to only !3,000 Mc assuming 20% grid penetration,
which will go up with the augmentation of grid capacity in potential states.

ü cind Turbines and the Landscape
ü - Large turbines don¶t turn as fast attract less attention
ü - City dwellers ³dwell´ on the attention attracted by windmills
ü Sound from cind Turbines
ü - Increasing tip speed less sound
ü - The closest neighbor is usually 300 m experiences almost no
noise
ü mirds often collide with high voltage overhead
lines, masts, poles, and
ü windows of buildings. They are also killed by cars in traffic.
However,
ü birds are seldom bothered by wind turbines.

ü Economy
The capital cost of wind power project ranges from 4 to 5
crores per Mc. This gives a cost of energy generation in
the range of Rs 2.00 to Rs 3.00 per Kch.
Operation and maintenance costs are low.
 Zero input fuel cost.
Low efficiency as wind speed varies from time to time.

Main problem in solar power generation is that large scale
production is very costly.
In case of nuclear energy, the initial cost is very high,
especially the construction cost of the nuclear building
where the nuclear reactor is present, it is made earthquake
proof and crack proof, therefore the costs are very high.
Operation costs gradually decreases as the used fuel can be
reused.
Skilled employees are required as small leaps can lead to
high damages.
