Experience
• Good judgment comes from experience, and
experience comes from bad judgment.
• Experience is that wonderful thing that allows
you to recognize a mistake when you make it
again.
Will Our Experience Help You?
• The Software is the same, but
• Facilities have different resources
• Personalities
• Leeway in productivity
• Cash for purchasing Hardware
• Administrative Support/Pressure
• Ability and Willingness to Change…
CAC Positions
• You can get away with having multiple
staff members sharing the CAC duties –
allows for ‘specialization’
• You can have staff members carry clinical,
CAC and administrative duties…
• ALMOST – each of our CAC’s get called
away for clinical duty
Implementation
• You can implement whole clinics at a time.
– Up to a point, larger clinics had some specific
problems.
• You can creep onto EHR slowly.
– Creates some special problems for CBT folks
who have to juggle paper, EHR and combo
visits for an extended period of time.
You Can Use Wireless Early On
• You can use a wireless set up early on in
your implementation process.
– But for significant periods of time the MAIN
cause of EHR error and problem-calls was
problems with wireless laptops .
– Can be very confusing and hard to nail down
where the problem is occurring.
– Though complex, might be quickest way to
get wide area access through a clinic.
You Can Use Tablets….
• Tablets are ‘cool’ lightweight
transportable…
– But they have relatively small screens
compounded by low resolution.
– The Touch-Sensitive screens are often
difficult to read in well-lit areas [Hospital].
– They have a very short battery life.
– Text Entry is quite difficult.
Quality of Health Care
• RPMS-EHR is a power tool to improve
quality of care…
– But only if you plug it in and use it in a
focused dedicated program.
– IPV Screening done March 2005 on EHR 24.
– IPV Screening done March 2006 using EHR
reminders – 1700.
