 Couse Objective 4 – John Deere
 Couse Objective 5 – Nike Inc.
 Couse Objective 6 – 3M
 Couse Objective 7- Walmart
 Couse Objective 8 – Elkay Manufacturing
 Couse Objective 9 – Coca-Cola
Course Objective 1 Gerelsuren Zorigt
 Given the importance of operations and supply chain management, substantiate the importance of the

operational excellence in managing service and product production, recognizing that organization

structures are now much flatter and are transitioning from functional to customer and product focused.

(Week 1)

 “The Triple Bottom Line”: People, Planet and Profit

 Social: “Treat everyone with fairness”

 Economic: “Produce or provide an excellent product and services to customers

 Environmental: “Been environmentally responsible and sustainable”

Course Objective 2 Anthony Owens

 Given a requirement to globally synchronize the movement of material, information and funds, design structural approaches to capture and

analyze information, develop flexible and sustainable work processes, and ensure organized decisions, changes and improvements.

 What I learned from the course?

 How to work under pressure when your back is against the wall and everything is not going in your favor. I learned that no matter what is going on

you have to just keep pushing through adversity at all times no matter what issues you face.

 I also learned how many companies conduct their businesses behind closed doors. The research and looking for different ways on how they

applied the supply chain concepts learned from this class has brought a lot of insight.
Course Objectives 3 and 4 Michael Nicholas

Given the global importance of technology across all sectors of the economy, describe the

importance of electronic commerce with respect to operations and supply chain management,

and formulate a plan for how lean supply chains and global sourcing can combine to increase

the revenue of a given firm.

Given a requirement to determine optimal inventory investment in both manufacturing and

service environments, justify the role of inventory, analyze its costs and benefits, and develop a

process to maximize inventory velocity.

What I Learned and Applications Michael Nicholas
What did I learn? How would I apply this lesson to my life?

Importance of keeping up-to-date with • For businesses (competitive, CS, build

technology relationships, operate smoothly, etc.)
• My life/career (remain needed, be
informed, improve knowledge, look
outside school)
• Teaching (prepare students, develop
curriculum)
A new look at business from an operations • Teaching (better questioning skills, broader
standpoint knowledge base)
• Knowledge (possible career opportunities)
• Entrepreneur (new considerations)
Examples from Project • Deere - Production line development
(batch vs. variety)- inventory implications
• UPS – constantly changing to remain
relevant; technology improvements yet
what’s up with Amazon????
Course Objective 5 Gerelsuren Zorigt

 Given multiple tools and techniques for analyzing and controlling

the flow of resources—forecasting, capacity planning, queuing
theory, scheduling, optimization, decision trees, select the
appropriate technique and apply it to a given problem. (Week 2)

 “Decision Tree”: is a layout to find solution and an understanding

the problem.
 Applicable for both work and life decisions
Course Objective 6- Rosa

 Given the relationship between work structures and designing efficient process flows

recommend how the concepts of capacity analysis, quality management, and Six

Sigma improve productivity and supply chain efficiency.

 Total quality Management (TQM) – Public Transportation

 Putting the customer first

 Manage and Improve Processes

 Use facts and Data

Course Objective 7 Anthony owens

 Given the relationship of sharing customer service processes,

purchasing, manufacturing and distribution systems, recommend

how operations and supply chain managers can directly contribute

to improving operations synergies.

COURSE OBJECTIVE 8 TANI PAPAZISI

Given approaches for ensuring predictability and repeatability

in operations and supply chains, discuss the capabilities of

Master Production Scheduling (MPS) and Material

Requirements Planning (MRP)

In Business world planning and teamwork is key for success

Course Objective 9 - Rosa
 Given and understanding of Logistics and Distribution in supply chains, consider the

major issues in locating plant and warehouse facilities, use a factor rating systems to

narrow your selections, and review transportation models to analyze models.

 Selecting a new facility

1. Identify the important location factors.
2. Rate each factor according to its relative importance, i.e., higher the ratings is
indicative of prominent factor.
3. Assign each location according to the merits of the location for each factor.
4. Calculate the rating for each location by multiplying factor assigned to each
location with basic factors considered.
5. Find the sum of product calculated for each factor and select best location
having highest total score.
