According to Hudson (1996: 1),


sociolinguistics is the study of language
in relation to society.

sociolinguistics is a branch of linguistics
which concern is the language as a social
and cultural phenomenon.

These studies have to do with the language
use, using methodology of surveys (Gonzalez
and Bautista 1986), language rights (Sibayan
1986a), and language identity (Pacasio 1972;
Sibayan and Segovia 1982).
