The population of the region is relatively young as shown by the broad-


based pyramid. There were more men than women in 2010. Sex ratio
was posted at 106 men for every 100 women.

There were more single men (771,121) than women (603,806) in the
region in 2010. Sex ratio was registered at 128 single men for every
100 single women.

Labor force participation rate for men (80.7%) was significantly


higher than women (49.8%) in 2011.
Unemployment rate of women (5.9%) was slightly higher than
that of men (4.8%). However, underemployment rate of men
(26.7%) was higher compared to women (19.8%).

There were more women employed in Private Households, Education, Health and Social Work,
Wholesale and Retail Trade, Financial Intermediation, and Hotels and Restaurants, while there
were more men employed in Construction, TSC, Fishing, Mining and Quarrying, EGW, Agriculture,
Hunting and Forestry, Real Estate, Renting and Business Activities, Public Admin., Defense, and
Compulsory Social Security and Manufacturing.

Majority of currently married women aged 15-49 years old are not using any
contraceptive method. However, the number has continuously declined
from 64.1% in 1993 to 52.5% in 2008.

The number of trafficked victims served in Eastern Visayas by


the DSWD declined significantly from 83 in 2011 to 16 in 2012.
Women comprised most or 87.5% of the victims.
