2 INTRODUCTION

a) Motorcycles have high rate of fatal accidents than cars

or trucks and buses.
b) This project aims for accident avoidance, safety and security of bike rider.
c) The system will ensure that the motorbike will not start unless the rider is
wearing a helmet and has not consumed alcohol. Thus alcohol detection
is also an important part in this project. Alcohol detection is done byMQ3
sensor and helmet detection is done by IR and PIR sensors.
3

d) The system will also alert the bike rider if any obstacle comes too
close while riding the bike. This is found to be useful at night or
when the rider is drowsy or tired. By this accidents can be prevented.
e) Also GSM technology is used to inform the family members in case
of an accident. Accident detection is done using accelerometer.
Wireless communication through Ask module is done between the
helmet and motorbike.

MODIFIED PROJECT OBJECTIVES-
5
The project consists of 6 parts:

a) Helmet Authentication- to ensure that the bike rider is wearing a helmet or not
(using IR & PIR Sensor).
b) Alcohol Detection- to ensure that the bike rider has not consumed alcohol
(using MQ3 Gas Sensor).
c) Safety Zone Indication- to alert the bike rider if any vehicle comes too close
using Ultra sonic Sensor.
d) Fall Detection- the vibrations due to static obstacles will be detected by
accelerometer.
e) Response System- in the helmet in case of accident, to inform bike rider’s
family about the accident using GPS & GSM module.
f) Traffic Adaptive Playback- audio announcement using adaptive mp3 playback.
6 METHODOLOGY
a) Circuit Design using express PCB Software- A PCB layout is
required to place components on the PCB so that the component
area can be minimized and the components can be placed in an
efficient manner.
b) PCB Printing & Etching- The easiest way to place components in
your board layout is to use the Component Manager.
c) PCB Drilling & Mounting of components on PCB- Using
surface mount technology the components become much smaller
and component placement on both side of board become more
common.
d) Testing of PCB using multimeter.
7

e) Programming using Adruino – The Arduino Uno is a

microcontroller board based on the ATmega328 . It has 14 digital
input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6
analog inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, a USB connection, a
power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button.
f) Testing of Programming and Overall Test.

11 WORKING
a) To sense the helmet, IR transmitter receiver pair is used. To sense the
alcohol content, an alcohol sensor-MQ3 Gas sensor is used for the same.
Based on tilt sense based on accelerometer, fall detection of the vehicle is
known.
b) Based on these three data, the microcontroller allow the vehicle to get
started. If any parameter is found to be invalid, the controller will send an
auto message via GSM module to a registered user and an alarm will also
be triggered.
c) After this if the fall is detected then the location i.e. latitude & longitude of
bike rider will be sent to his family/friends through GPS Module
d) If everything goes right, then the receiver
relay will be on and then the user can start the bike.
APPLICATION
12

a) The system will ensure that the motorbike will not start unless the rider is
wearing a helmet and has not consumed alcohol. Hence safety of person is
ensured.
b) Also GSM technology is used to inform the family members in case of an
accident. This project could be highly developed with upcoming technologies
to provide further more safety and security to the vehicle systems..
c) The vehicle tracking system can be implemented. This will protect the vehicle
from theft. This can also be used to ensure that rider is not misusing the bike.
d) The developed system senses the obstacles in front of the vehicle and so that
the accidents due to static obstacles could be avoided.
e) In future if all the bike manufacturing companies include this system on each
bike before the sell, accident rates will drastically all down.
13 ADVANTAGES
a) It will help to reduce the number of road accidents which are very
frequent in a country like India where the traffic is very high.
b) It will help to create awareness about the need to wear helmet
during bike riding.
c) The system will ensure that the motorbike will not start unless the
rider is wearing a helmet and has not consumed alcohol.
d) The system will also alert the bike rider if any obstacle comes too
close while riding the bike.
e) Also GSM technology is used to inform the family members in
case of an accident.
