WHAT IS BARRANQUILLA
CARNIVAL?
• The best party in Colombia, the Carnival of
Barranquilla, is lived the first quarter of each
year, a few days before Ash Wednesday.
However, the pre-carnival begins almost in mid-
January with a series of street parties where
dances, parades and parades take place. In the
celebrations participate about 500 folkloric
groups, international artists and all the people of
Barranquilla.
HISTORY OF BARRANQUILLA
CARNIVAL
• The traditional novena of La Candelaria, in Cartagena de
Indias, served as a framework for sumptuous dances that in
the 18th century granted a holiday to the black muzzles
brought from Africa. These parties are the source of the main
dances of the Carnival of Barranquilla.
