MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE
Municipal solid wastes are defined by EPA as
waste consisting of everyday items used, such as product packaging, grass clippings, furniture, clothing, bottles, food scraps, newspapers, appliances, paint, and batteries, which comes from “homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses”. MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE SOURCES
Residential. - Including single and multiple-family houses, for
example of products nondurable paper items (newspapers).
Commercial.- Including restaurants, office and stores, for
example, food waste products, office paper products.
Institutional. - Including schools, hospitals, prisons, and
nursing homes, for example food wastes, paper (classrooms and offices)
Industrial packaging and administrative wastes. - For example
of products wooden pallets, office paper, plastic film and food wastes (from cafeterias). MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT (MSWM)
Includes the collection,
transfer, resource recovery, recycling, and treatment of waste. The main target is to protect the population health, promote environmental quality. ADVANCING SUSTAINABLE WASTE MANAGEMENT PROJECTS IN ECUADOR AND CHILE. CCAP, in partnership with the Climate and Clean Air Coalition’s (CCAC) Municipal Solid Waste Initiative (MSWI), is working with the municipalities of Quito, Ecuador and Puerto Varas, Chile to support the implementation of sustainable waste management projects that reduce short-lived climate pollutants (SLCP) emissions in these cities.
