AGRICULTURE
THE SCIENCE OR PRACTICE OF FARMING, INCLUDING
CULTIVATION OF THE SOIL FOR THE GROWING OF CROPS AND
THE REARING OF ANIMALS TO PROVIDE FOOD, WOOL, AND
OTHER PRODUCTS

IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE
AGRICULTURE PLAYS A CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE LIFE OF AN
ECONOMY. IT IS THE BACKBONE OF OUR ECONOMIC SYSTEM.
AGRICULTURE NOT ONLY PROVIDES FOOD AND RAW
MATERIAL BUT ALSO EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO A
VERY LARGE PROPORTION OF POPULATION. THE FOLLOWING
FACTS CLEARLY HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF
AGRICULTURE IN THIS COUNTRY.
FORESTRY
IS THE SCIENCE AND CRAFT OF CREATING, MANAGING,
USING, CONSERVING, AND REPAIRING FORESTS AND
ASSOCIATED RESOURCES TO MEET DESIRED GOALS, NEEDS,
AND VALUES FOR HUMAN AND ENVIRONMENT BENEFITS.
FORESTRY IS PRACTICED IN PLANTATIONS AND NATURAL
STANDS.

IMPORTANCE OF FORESTS
CANNOT BE UNDERESTIMATED. ... BESIDES PROVIDING HABITATS
FOR ANIMALS AND LIVELIHOODS FOR HUMANS, FORESTS ALSO
OFFER WATERSHED PROTECTION, PREVENT SOIL EROSION AND
MITIGATE CLIMATE CHANGE. YET, DESPITE OUR DEPENDENCE
ON FORESTS, WE ARE STILL ALLOWING THEM TO DISAPPEAR.
Who is the father of forestry?
• Gifford Pinchot
• The Father of Conservation. Saturday marks the
birthday of Gifford Pinchot, the first chief of the
U.S. Forests Service. He is known as the “father
of conservation” and credited for launching the
conservation movement in the United States by
urging Americans to preserve the past in order
to protect the future.
FISHERY
• is an entity engaged in raising or harvesting fish which is
determined by some authority to be a fishery. According to
the FAO, a fishery is typically defined in terms of the "people
involved, species or type of fish, area of water or seabed,
method of fishing, class of boats, purpose of the activities or
a combination of the foregoing features
• Sustainable, productive fisheries and aquaculture improve
food and nutrition security, increase income and improve
livelihoods, promote economic growth and protect our
environment and natural resources. ... Small-scale
aquaculture is especially important for meeting the world's
growing demand for fish.
WHAT ARE THE THREE BRANCHES OF
FISHERY?
• Aquaculture Branch.
• Fisheries Branch. Compliance and Enforcement
Division. Licensing and Quality Assurance
Division. Regional Offices.
• Marketing and Development Branch.
• Policy and Planning Branch.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF
FISHING METHODS?

• Angling is the principal method of sport fishing, but

commercial fisheries also use angling methods involving
multiple hooks, such as longlining or commercial trolling.
• Line fishing.
• Angling with a rod.
• Other angling.
• Blast fishing.
• Bottom trawling.
• Cyanide fishing.
• Muroami.
• Longline fishing is a
commercial fishing technique. It uses
a long line, called the main line,
with baited hooks attached at
intervals by means of branch lines
called snoods (or gangions)
• A fishing rod is a long,
flexible rod used to catch fish. At its
simplest, a fishing rod is a simple
stick or pole attached to a line
ending in a hook (formerly known as
an angle, hence the term angling).
• Angling is a method of fishing by means
of an "angle" (fish hook). The hook is
usually attached to a fishing line and the
line is often attached to a fishing rod.
• Blast fishing or dynamite fishing is the
practice of using explosives to stun or kill
schools of fish for easy collection. This
often illegal practice can be extremely
destructive to the surrounding ecosystem,
as the explosion often destroys the
underlying habitat (such as coral reefs)
that supports the fish.[1] The frequently
improvised nature of the explosives used
means danger for the fishermen as well,
with accidents and injuries.
• Bottom trawling is trawling (towing a trawl,
which is a fishing net) along the sea floor. It is
also referred to as "dragging". The scientific
community divides bottom trawling
into benthic trawling and demersaltrawling.
Benthic trawling is towing a net at the very
bottom of the ocean and demersal trawling is
towing a net just above the benthic zone
• Cyanide fishing is a method of collecting live
fish mainly for use in aquariums, which involves
spraying a sodium cyanide mixture into the
desired fish's habitat in order to stun the fish. The
practice hurts not only the target population, but
also many other marine organisms,
including coral and coral reefs.
• Muro-Ami (Reef Hunters) is a
1999 Filipino film that depicts one
of the worst forms of child labor in
the illegal fishing system. The film
follows the story of Fredo, a ruthless
captain of 150 muro-ami divers,
who employ illegal fishing practices,
such as pounding and crushing corals
to scare fish, driving them towards
the nets
