    Carbamazepine is a first-line treatment for partial seizures. However, it can sometimes exacerbate epilepsy symptoms. Patients at highest risk include those with severe, frequent seizures or multiple medications. Carbamazepine works by reducing abnormal nerve activity in the brain, but high doses can paradoxically increase seizures. Both old and new antiepileptic drugs may worsen seizures, but carbamazepine is most commonly linked to exacerbating generalized seizure types like absence or myoclonic seizures. Close monitoring is needed when using carbamazepine to treat epilepsy.

    EPILEPSI
     Penyakit kronik yang ditandai oleh kejang / disfungsi otak

    paroksismal akibat pelepasan neuron yang berlebihan

     Adanya ketidakseimbangan neurotransmitter

     Dimanifestasi berupa gangguan / penurunan kesadaran yang

    episodik, fenomena motorik abnormal, gangguan psikis /


    sensorik oleh kelainan aktivitas listrik di otak.
    CARBAMAZEPINE
     Golongan Benzodiazepine

     Agen antikonvulsan yang cukup efektif dan menjadi lini

    pertama untuk onset kejang parsial

     Reinforce the inhibitory action of GABAergic neuron by

    reducing the spread of seizure activity in the brain and


    restoring the normal balance of nerve activity.
    EPILEPSI EKSASERBASI
     Those at greatest risk of experiencing drug-related seizure

    exacerbation are disabled patients, children with severe


    epileptic encephalopathies, those with high seizure frequency
    and severe seizure type, also the polytherapy

     AED could affect sleep organization and daytime alertness, it

    also cause the sleep disorders that may mimic epileptic


    seizures

     Several experiments in rats and cats demonstrated that CBZ can
    abolish the prolonged electrical activity which may develop into
    seizures
     Sedative and pro-convulsive effects of high serum levels, drug-
    associated encephalopathy and a paradoxical pharmacodinamic
    effect.
     Both old and new AED may exacerbate seizures, but
    carbamazepine-induced generalized seizures (such as absence and
    myoclonic) are best documented.
