Experimental And To Evaluate

Mechanical Properties Of Switch

Box By Using Polymer Matrix
Composite
ABSTRACT
• Development of suitable processing techniques for Polymer
Matrix Composites (PMCs) is one of the major challenges
with respect to the energy efficient separation of
natural/synthetic fibres and the compatibilization of
reinforcements with the matrix polymer. Over the last
decade , intensive research and development have been
carried out in order to develop a novel processing
techniques for the fabrication of high-performance PMCs.
• In this paper discussed the switch box Composites by using
agave tequilana with Styrene matrix composite and to
evaluate the Mechanical properties of switch box(Tensile
strength, Hardness, Toughness Examination).
INTRODUCTION
• Polymer matrix composite material is the one that uses
organic polymer as matrix and fiber as reinforcement.
Strength and modulus of fiber are much higher than the
matrix material normally. This makes fibers the main load-
bearing component. However, there must be a matrix
material with good adhesion properties to firmly bond fibers
together. At the same time, the matrix material can serve to
uniformly distribute the applied load, and transfer the loads
to fiber. In addition, some properties of composite materials
mainly depend on the characteristics of the matrix material.
As a result, in composite materials, the performance of
fiber, matrix and the interface between them directly impact
on the performance of composite materials.
LETERATURE REVIEW
(Mallick, 2008) Depending on the processing method
selected and the required design need,
the fibers can be incorporated in the
polymer matrix in continuous lengths or
discontinuous lengths, and the fiber
orientation can be unidirectional,
bidirectional, random or combinations
thereof

(Kirkham et al, 1982) Among the chassis components, the first

major structural application of polymer
matrix composites was the Corvette rear
leaf spring, introduced in 1981

(Savage, 1991) Carbon fiber reinforced polymers are used

extensively in motor sports, where
lightweight structure is essential for
gaining the competitive advantage of
higher speed
(Warren et al, 2002) Much of the world’s production of carbon
fibers is consumed by the aerospace and
sporting goods industries. New
technologies are being developed to
produce low-cost carbon fibers and to
scale-up the production rate so that it can
perhaps meet the automotive industry’s
need

(Mallick, 2010; Brooks, 2000) Functional, interior and under-the-hood

applications, such as gears, brackets,
interior door panels, instrument panels,
intake manifolds, rocker covers. PMCs
used in this category of applications
include short or long fiber reinforced
thermoplastics and bulk molding
compounds (BMCs). The manufacturing
processes include injection molding and
compression molding.

DIE MAKING
• The tooling involved in plastic moulding is quite
similar to that of stamping dies. The principal
difference is that stamping requires force, while
molding does not. In plastic moulding, two units
are required whose design is such that, when
brought together, they make up a system of closed
cavities linked to a central orifice. Liquid plastic
is forced through the orifice and into the cavities,
or molds, and when the plastic solidifies, the
molds open and the finished parts are ejected.
