Strategic Transport Plan (STP), 2005

Strategic Transport Plan for Dhaka was prepared on 2005,


which was approved in the Cabinet in 2008

The major aim of STP to develop a Planned, Integrated and


Modern Transportation systems for the Greater Dhaka area

Reasons for Revision of STP


• Bangladesh witnessed massive socio economic development during last 7
to 10 years period
• DTCA area increased from 1524 Km2 to 7400 Km2
• Area and population of Dhaka City Corporation increased
• Dhaka City Corporation divided into two entities viz. North & South
• Two City Corporation newly formed viz. Gazipur & Narayanganj
• Many satellite towns have been established viz. Purbachal, Jhilmill etc.

Progress of MRT Line - 6
• Entire MRT Line-6 will be constructed under 8 Packages
• Agreement has been signed of Package No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 8
• Tender Evaluation of Package No. 7 is going on
• Tender invited for Package No. 5 and 6 and last date: 15 November 2017

Implementation Challenges
• Construction of viaduct under Package No. 3 and 4 is going on along the
median, which is major cause of traffic congestion. Mitigation of traffic
congestion through diversion.
• Utility relocation
• Security of foreign Experts and Consultants

Progress of MRT Line - 5
• Pre-feasibility of MRT Line-5 has been completed
• Feasibility Study will be completed within March 2018
• MRT Line-5 Project could be implemented through the Co-financing of ADB and JICA
• EOI Evaluation is going on to select Detail Design Consultant.
Implementation Challenges
• Acquisition of 80 acre of land area for the depot construction near Hemayetpur
• NOC from the Bangladesh Armey to fixup 1.3 km underground alignment through the
Dhaka Cantonment
• Uninterrupted Power supply for the operation
• MRT Act 2015 need to be congenial with the construction of underground metro rail
systems

• Pre-feasibility of MRT Line-5 has been completed
• Feasibility Study will be completed within March 2018
• Loan agreement was signed with JICA for the Detail Design of MRT Line - 1
• EOI Evaluation is going on to select Detail Design Consultant.

• Acquisition of 100 acre of land area for the depot construction near Pitolganj, Rupganj
• NOC from the DNCC for the sub-soil investigation along the alignment
• Uninterrupted Power supply for the operation

Dhaka Integrated Traffic Management Project


Intersection improvement and implementation of ITS system at Mohakhali,
Gulshan 1, Platan and Fulbaria Intersection. Current
Major Features:
• Designing with the current RoW

• Ensuring traffic safety for vehicles and pedestrians
