STAUNCHFUL NB-IOT FOR WASTE

COLLECTION PROCESS
Abstract

■ Efficient waste collection : Necessary service in the application of Smart Cities

■ IoT-based architecture targets:
– Monitoring waste volume and content in a waste bin
– Monitoring Bin’s surroundings
– Dynamic scheduling and routing of waste collection vehicles
– Relays information from bins
■ Detects obstacles around the bin
■ Monitors illegal dumping in the vicinity of bin
Abstract

■ Routing protocol provides an optimal solution for waste collection from the filled bins
■ Effective in high density residential areas
■ Minimizes length of trips
■ Narrow band IOT
■ Combined improvement result
– Increase in efficiency of waste collection
– Reduces carbon footprint
Introduction

■ Proper waste management : Integral aspect of city management

■ Novel technology
– Reduce operational cost
– Maintain consistent levels of service
■ Current waste collection efforts utilize static route planning with fixed scheduling
– Approach is costly
– indicates requirement for continued development and improvement
– Generates high-carbon footprint
■ Absence of waste monitoring and limited waste-bin allocation per household lead to:
– Overfill of bins
– Discard waste in non-designated areas
– Incur additional costs
– Added demand for waste removal and management in city

Disadvantages of Existing System

■ Does not maintain the exact data information.

■ Waste Collectors cannot respond at the correct time
■ No security for the data
■ Simple authentication method is used
■ Text password was the only system used for authentication system.
■ Individual GPS for each waste bin is very expensive.
■ Heavy Power consumption
Proposed System
■ Each bin is considered as one node
■ This system transfers data from one node to another through Low power RF.
■ Few nodes will form one Cluster and will have a Cluster head which will collect all data
■ Each cluster head will transmit the Waste level of their member nodes to the server
■ Cluster head rotation method is applied which will reduce the energy consumption
■ In server side instead of normal password based authentication, we are proposing
Graphical Password authentication.
■ By making these changes the whole system becomes more reliable, secure and energy
efficient.
■ Due to NB IOT based communication cost of the whole system is very low.

Graphical Password Authentication

■ Graphical passwords provide a promising alternative to traditional alphanumeric

passwords. They are attractive since people usually remember pictures better than
words.
■ Since dynamic images are displayed during login guess attacks are not possible.
ADVANTAGES

■ Cost effective due to the avoidance of GPS hardware components

■ Energy efficient
■ User friendly
Conclusion

■ Holistic review of waste management system

■ Starts from smartening-up the waste-bin
■ Optimize waste collection times
■ Anticipates the nature of collected waste to considerations of collection vehicles
■ Route planning and scheduling
■ Cloud-based implementation for processing and computation core
■ Great flexibility in terms of implementation,
■ Allows varied waste-collection objectives
■ Energy efficient
■ Cost effective
