MODELLING A TRANSVERSAL

BULKHEAD USING TRIBON

-About Tribon M3 Shipbuilding system –
Tribon M3 - is an integrated design, information and
production system created to fit the specific needs of
shipbuilding and offshore industries.
- supports the complete shipbuilding process,
where the goal is to efficiently produce and handle all the
information needed from concept to delivery.
- now offers a preliminary ship steel structure to
be generated in a few hours
The Tribon system is based on the use of a Product
Information Model (PIM) database, which has been
designed to handle in an efficient way all of the structural
and outfit objects found in the shipbuilding industry.
 The information in the PIM contains all the technical
data that is needed to define the final product. It
addresses all phases in the design and production
process. Information from one stage can be used in
the next stage.
 TRIBON M3 model or "ship database" for each
project being used by all designers and production
planners means that the information stored in the
database is immediately available to the entire
organization.
 In all Tribon modeling tasks work is carried out on the
“live” database, therefore all additions changes are
instant. Parts or model objects are worked on via the
PC and not on it.
THE PLANAR HULL MODELLING
CONCEPT
 Tribon planar hull Structure is defined by creating a
number of panels in each block to represent the required
structure. A typical Tribon panel can consist of a number
of plates, to which Stiffeners, Brackets and Flanges etc
can be added.
 The scheme file is responsible for generating the visual
representation of the model and is critical in planar
modeling, modifications can be made in the scheme file
and regenerated in the panel model.
Line 1 = the scheme file name = pg111-105401
Line 2 = the panel name = PG111-105401

Type of panel = 101 (Watertight, non-watertight etc)
Orientation and Position of the panel = X=111

THE STEPS FOR THE PLANAR HULL
MODELLING
MODELLING WITH TRIBON M3 PLANAR
HULL USING A SHIP MODEL
To start modeling a ship we need the input
data:
 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW SHIPS
 TEHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
 TECHNOLOGICAL DATA
 STANDARD DATA
 INTERNAL DATA

Adding Seams
Seams have to be added to a panel if the panel is to be
made up of more then one plate, if a panel comprises
of 2 or more plates then the seam definition is used
to define the line of the seam.

Assembly Planning
Assembly Planning provides functionality to manage
the production breakdown structure of the Tribon
Product Information Model (PIM).
Different types of hull parts can be collected to assemblies:
 Plates
 Stiffeners
 Brackets

Assembly
 The selected assembly is made current
 The program is set in Collect mode.
 The Assembly Parts window is opened (if it is not already
open) and locked to the current assembly.
 The name of the current assembly is shown in the title bar
 The buttons SAVE and CANCEL are accessible

CONCLUSION

Tribon M3 is an integrated software system for ship

design and offers the highest quality in the design and
production processes. The first Tribon packages have been
developed by Tribon Solutions (former Kockums Computer
Systems). In 2004 Tribon Solutions have been acquired by
AVEVA Group plc (formerly known as Cad centre).
M3 is the last Tribon version. It includes initial design
modules, basic design, hull modeling, outfitting modeling
modules, assembly planning and work preparation modules.
Works on Windows systems and is developed exclusively
for shipbuilding industry.
3D modeling is very often created according to 2D drawings,
which are reconstructed as 3D reference information.
However, 2D drawing sketches should be originally
generated from 3D model’s slices.
Reiterative work also occurs in lines fairing operation.
Hull form data after the functional plan stage has to be
recreated more precisely for actual manufacturing and
construction purposes.
