Introduction
• Screw application is used in the elevation of vehicles or
objects.
• The operation of the screw jack is such that it comprises a
handle for driving a bolt element (Lead Screw) manually to
adjust the height of the jack to elevate a vehicle or an
object.
• A mechanical jack is a device which lifts weighty or heavy
equipment and vehicles so that maintenance can be carried
out underneath at workplace or manufacturing setting.
• These present available jacks further require the operator
to remain in prolonged bent or squatting position to
operate the jack.
• Due to its difficulties, body pains, back ache and others can
emerge as a result of continuous turning of the wrench or
crank shaft in an uncomfortable position for a long period.
• The statement of problem has led to the motivation of
designing a modified quick lifting screw jack with gear
arrangement.
• The introduction of the bevel gear will help reduce difficulty in
operation with a handle incorporated in the design and also
reduce time spent to a very minimum.
• We also included Rocker and pinion for reciprocating motion.
Objective of the project
• Due to its difficulties, body pains, back ache
and others can emerge as a result of
continuous turning of the wrench or crank
shaft in an uncomfortable position for a long
period.
• The design is fundamentally a modification of
the conventional scissor jack.
MECHANISMS USED
• RACK AND PINION
MECHANISM
• BEVEL GEAR MECHANISM
RACK AND PINION MECHANISM
• Pinion moves the rack which meshes
with the pinion.
• It coverts the rotary motion to
reciprocating motion.
• The pinion shaft is usually rotated with a
hand crank.
BEVEL GEAR MECHANISM
• Bevel gears are a type of gear used to
transmit power from one axis to another
non-parallel axis.
• Bevel gears have slanted teeth, which
actually makes the shape of their "pitch
diameter" a cone.

CONSTRUCTION & WORKING
• During usage, the screw jack is assembled for
operation with Bearings extended properly.
• The jack is then placed perfectly under the vehicle
with Gear drive arrangement in proposed design
loading platform serving as a base for support.
• Lead screw, functions as the effort that aids rotation
of Crank disc and crank disc pinion.
• During the process of lifting lead screw rotates in
clockwise direction allowing Crank disc and crank

disc pinion rotate as well which aids in the upward
movement of Gear drive arrangement in proposed
design.
• The reverse is the case when lead screw is turned
counter clockwise, allowing downward movement of
Crank disc and crank disc pinion thereby lowering the
load.
• Doing all these like the conventional screw jack , the
operator must carefully inspect the operation making
sure the load sits perfectly on the loading platform to
prevent unsafe conditions i.e. slippage of the vehicle
from the jack.

WORK DONE SO FAR
• Assembly of equipment is finished.
WORK TO BE DONE
• Report of our project to be prepared.
ADVANTAGES
• Use for double motion of required weight.
• Medium size can be fixed in any critical area.
• Equipments of the machine is available one.
• Its also low cost.
DISADVANTAGE
• More equipment should be used ,so weight of
jack is large.
• Lead screw diameter is more, so lifting speed
is disturbed.
• Number of gears are used, so handle of
equipment is to be careful.
PREVENTION OF DISADVANTAGES
• Use small diameter of lead screw for better
speed of lifting.
• Use of splines will reduce the number of
gears.
• All materials should be choice like low weight
and better strength to overcome the
unnecessary weight of equipment.
Literature Review

• Author Name (year of publish): “Modified Screw Jack

for Lifting Operation in Industrial Setting” Detailed
design procedure of a quick lifting screw jack is
presented in this paper.

• I.S. Rout et al., (2010): “ Design and fabrication of

motorized automated object lifting jack, IOSR Journal
of Engineering ” Given the fundamental principles and
steps of simulation of QUICK LIFTING jack using ANSYS
software have been described in detail that can be
applied for different case studies.
