SRINIVASAN SERVICE TRUST (SST)
• SOCIAL COMMITMENT- Health Care, Education, Rural/Community
Development, Environment, Tribal Development.

• TVS MOTOR COMPANY AND SUNDRAM CLAYTON formed a trust, both


contribute 1% of their profit towards SST.

• “We don’t have to pay for the employee from SST Fund ” – Joshi (Chairman
SST)

• Total money expenses on CSR is 3 Crore but outcomes values are 5 times.

• TQM practice of TVS is handled by the trust.

• Formation of SHGs in:
• 131 SHGs in Padavedu
• 93 SHGs in Tirukurungudi

• 41 SHGs in Hosur

• Income generation programmes: Banana fibre extraction and value-added


products, Agarbathi and Chapathi making, Mushroom cultivation,
Apiculture, Dairying, Sheep rearing, Appalam’s and Masala powder
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (contd.)
• Vocational training: In collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Foundation
under LABS programme for educated, unemployed youth

• Appropriate technology: Drip irrigation and quality seeds provided to


farmers through Farmers Association (formed at community level)

Nadu Agriculture University and IITs): For preparing techno-economic
feasibility study utilising agro-based materials, rainwater harvesting,
environmental sanitation etc.
HEALTH SERVICES
• Major Eye Camps: In coordination with Aravind Eye Hospital. So far
12000 cataract surgeries were performed in collaboration with IOC
(since 1996)

• Dental Check-up: For school children in all government school. E.g.:


10,000 children in 33 schools in Padavedu were coverd

• Alcoholism Treatment Residential Camp: Conducted at Padavedu


through T.T.K. Hospital, Chennai

• 9 PHCs by SST and 5 Govt. PHCs have been adopted by SST

EDUCATION – GENERAL AND VOCATIONAL
• Schools Improvement Facilities –
Construction of toilets with running water, balwadi construction, fencing,
drinking water, partition of class rooms, supply of science and audio-visual equipment,
scholarship to poor students, etc.
• SST also runs Schools at Hosur and Tumkur
• Based on child-focussed and project-oriented education ‘learning by doing’ and on experience.
• Centre for Advanced Vocational Training, situated at Vanagaram, near Chennai.
• The National Apprentice Board – approved courses offered are industrial machinist,
mechanical, and electronics for a period of 3 years.
• Adult Education in collaboration with TCS
• TVS Academy and SST have been creating an interface between Government School
Teachers for activity-based learning techniques.
INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES
• Roads and drains, drinking water, street lights, public library, health
sub centre, etc
• Partnership under “Namaku Naame Thittam I Village Self Sufficiency
Scheme” – year 1999-2002

ECO-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT
• To increasing green coverage and protecting forests, Joint Forest
Management (JFM) programme at Padavedu and Tirukkurungudi in
coordination with TNFD, TERI and TVS group.
• Social forestry, Horticultural and Wasteland development
programmes
• Comprehensive Plan has been prepared for sustainable water sources
by adopting rainwater harvesting and artificial recharge for 5 years.
• Comprehensive Watershed Development Plan in coordination with
various line departments.
• Water management techniques viz., drip irrigation, traditional waterbodies
viz., lakes, tanks and ponds are being identified and rejunevated.

eco development programme in which Kalakad-Mundanthurai Tiger
Reserve(KMTR)project .
Other SST Services In Forest Management
• Providing professional expertise in developmental interventions to
strengthen initiatives for forest department. Include training
programs and capacity building workshops for villagers for various
operational activities.
• Creating partnerships with various ongoing government rural
development schemes on poverty reduction and environmental
conservation for mobilising resources.
• Liaisoning of SST staff with local administration to execute
development work

• Adoption, reconstruction and maintenance of existing infrastructure.
• Providing livelihood through imparting training to local youth. Eg-
practical training conducted at service stations of TVS Motor
Company.
• Empowerment of women through self-help groups(SHGs). Include
training programmes for developing technical skills such as pickle
making and tailoring.
• Income generation projects. This includes giving loans to villagers for
various income-generating activities such as pot-making, basket
weaving etc.
ACCENT ON HEALTH & EDUCATION
