Borja, Naomi Galero, Liezl Lopez, Camella GENERAL RULES AND GUIDELINES The General Science Quiz Bee is open to all bona fide students of Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), at second year level, who were selected by their respective organizations as their official representative; The General Science Quiz Bee will be an individual contest, which consists of two (2) participants per organization. The General Science Quiz Bee, Academic Contest 2016 will cover the following subjects: Fundamentals of Biological Sciences General Chemistry General Physics Food Science and Nutrition Different types and/or forms of questions must be expected during the contest proper that varies from multiple choice, identification, problem solving, etc. Contestants may provide only one (1) non- programmable calculator during the contest proper, which must be previously checked and approved by the head committee. Calculators should be submitted thirty (30) minutes before the quiz proper and be returned to each contestant five (5) minutes prior to the quiz proper. Blank papers will be provided for each contestant and can be used if computations are needed; Only the top three (3) contestants with the highest cumulative scores from the quiz proper will be announced as winners and will be the representative of the school in the upcoming General Science Quiz Bee at PUP Sta. Mesa. Non-compliance from any of the stated rules and guidelines of the contest would mean disqualification of the participant from the contest. The contest shall follow the “board and chalk” method during the entire quiz proper. Each contestant will be provided with chalk, a board eraser and an official writing board where the name of the organization is indicated and/or reflected; Each contestant will be accompanied/assisted by an official facilitator which is responsible for raising the official board of the contestant to be recognized by the quiz master if the contestant’s official answer is correct; Each question shall be read twice. After the second reading, the quiz master shall signal “GO”. This is the only time where the timer starts counting down the time allotted for each respective question. Each contestant may start deliberating the answers even if the quiz master is not finished with the second reading yet. However, all contestants must raise the official board with their official answer as soon as the “Time is Up” was announced by the quiz master; The quiz master shall reveal the correct answer after all the contestants raised their boards with official answers. Only the contestant/s with correct answer/s will be read by the quiz master. The following cases will be considered as incorrect answers: If the answer written is not in the simplest form; If the correct value is written but with incorrect unit; If the answer is written in wrong spelling; If the answer written cannot be legibly read by the quiz master/judges/head committee; and Failure of the contestant to raise the official board with answers at the given time; The questions for the entire quiz are divided into three (3) level categories namely Easy, Average and Difficult questions. Individual questions will be flashed from the screen while the quiz master is reading it. In each level category, the correct answer of each contestant will be given the following points and/or credits;
Easy Questions - 3 points;
Average Questions - 6 points; Difficult Questions - 9 points The official decision announced by the head of the board of judges is final and irrevocable. The scores of the contestants will be announced by the quiz master after every category. Only the scores officially tallied by the panel members that duly signed by the panel head will be honored and shall be used as the basis for reading and/or announcing the official scores of each contestant; The contestant who will accumulate the highest score from the three (3) categories shall be declared as the Champion. The second contestant with highest cumulative score will be the First Runner-Up and the third highest contestant being the Second Runner-Up. In cases where contestants included in the top three (3) have the same cumulative scores at the end of three (3) level categories, clincher questions will be asked until a winner emerges in that particular rank. Questions were randomly selected from the pool of questions approved by the head committee and will be flashed on the screen while the quiz master is reading it.
