1. INTRODUCTION
2. METHODS OF DEMOLITION
3. CASE STUDY
4. SUMMARY
5. REFERENCES

2
Demolition is the process of destroying down or
dismantling or collapsing down of large buildings after
its useful life period. The process of demolition is carried
out with the help of some equipment or other methods
with legal procedure followed by the consent of the local
authority.

3
 Injury to human workers.
 Falling of smaller objects.
 Collapse of unstable structure.
 Falling of partially demolished structure.

4
 Tearing Down
 Deconstruction
 Valuable elements

5
6
There are two types of Demolitions
1) Non-Explosive Method. 2) Explosive Method.

7
Equipment's used are
1. Sledged Hammer.

2. Excavators.

3. Bulldozers.

4. Crane with Wrecking Ball

8
A sledge hammer, equipment used for removing a
stone wall or a single column. It consists of a long
stem with a metallic head.

9
Hydraulic excavators may be used to topple one-or
two-story buildings by an undermining process. The
undermining process means, erode the base or
foundation, i.e., dig or excavate beneath the
foundation so as to make it collapse.

10
In case of buildings have greater
heights (5 to 6 story) normal
excavators and bulldozers are not
sufficient. In such cases crane with
wrecking balls are used to perform
the demolition activity.

11
Explosives Used are

 Dynamite
 Cyclo-trimethylene-trinitramine(RDX).
 Water gels.
 PETN( penta-erythritol tetra-nitrate).

12
 Dynamite is a
combination of
nitroglycerin with inert
filler, making the end
product stable for
handling which was
invented by Alfred
Nobel in 1866.

13
 RDX-based explosive compounds expand at a
very high rate of speed, up to 27,000 feet per
second (8,230 meters per second).
 Chemically it is classified as Nitramide.

14
 It is a major ingredient of Semtex (plastic
Explosive) and belongs to the same chemical
family as Nitroglycerin.

15
There are two ways to implode a building.
1) Felling Like a Tree 2) Falling into its own print

16
 It is less expensive.
 This method is quickest.
 Suitable for multi-storeyed structures.
 Reduces the ground impact and resultant
vibration.

17
 Large pieces of debris might project towards
spectators away.
 A small carelessness will lead to huge damage.
 Need of Experienced hands.

18
19
The structure completed its designed life and the existing
condition of the building was deteriorated.

20
 Precautions regarding Machinery / Equipment.
 Precautions regarding Scaffolding.
 Precautions regarding Public Safety.
 Precautions regarding Worker Safety.

21
 Demolition method of a structure depends upon various
factors such as site condition, type of structures, age of
building, height of building, economy, its location and
its surrounding with its structural stability.
 Controlled demolition of building is necessary to
ensure safety of both the workers and the surroundings
so as to cause least amount of injuries and accidents.
 Building implosion also includes the controlled
demolition of other structures, such as bridges, towers,
and tunnels.
