Density

Density is the amount of mass in a volume.

It tells us how tightly matter is packed together.

Common units
g/cm3 How many grams for every cm3.
kg/m3 How many kg for every m3.

Bronze Example
A cuboid has dimensions of 9cm x 3 cm x 12cm.

It has a mass of 194.4g.

Find the density of the cuboid.

We are asked to find the density so we cover the density in the triangle.

We need to divide the mass by the volume.

We are given the mass but need to find the volume.

Volume of cuboid = base x height x depth

A cuboid has dimensions of 2 m x 90 cm x 140 cm.

It has a density of 0.8kg/m3.

Find the mass of the cuboid.

We are asked to find the mass so we cover the mass in the triangle.

We need to multiply the density by the volume.

WATCH OUT for any difference in the units!!
