DIGITAL FRAMEWORK
GOOGLE MAP PLATFORMS
 Big Basket handles more than a million orders
per month
 Big Basket has more than four million customers

 Big Basket is built from the ground up using

Google Maps Platforms
 It makes sure that they have the right customer
locations and deliver on time
 It helps them to be fast, efficient and make sure
their customers get what they’ve ordered quickly.
DELIVERY STRATEGY

 Own fleet of GPS enabled vans

 Working on a hub-and-spoke model

 All the goods are bought and stocked in a

warehouse
 10 % refund if late

 Combination of JIT & Inventory model

THE RIGHT SUPPLY CHAIN: THE BIGGEST
CHALLENGE (PROBLEM STATEMENT)

 The main challenge is to get the supply chain

right. There is a problem regarding the
complexity of the fresh produce/low shelf life
products supply chain.
 Big basket faces the problem of cracking the
exodus of customers in online shopping with the
inertia increasing rapidly
CHALLENGES/ PROBLEMS
 Customer’s unwillingness to pay delivery
charges: When purchase is made for a smaller
amount it is highly uncertain that the customer
will pay delivery charges.
 Difficulty to penetrate in small towns:
Bargaining is a hobby in most small towns.
 Home makers are not tech savvy! : Most of them
dread the concept of running apps, comparing prices,
ordering etc.
 Disadvantages from Inventory Management:

Huge rent of warehouse, cold storage and maintaining

excess inventory
 Infrastructure: High maintenance and logistics cost.
 Freshness of fruits and vegetables: Customers
have peculiar taste in selecting vegetables. Delivering
rotten fruits and veggies because of mishandling etc
cause dissatisfaction.
 Huge marketing costs: Promotional activities,
advertisements expend revenue and ultimately profits
turn into loss.
STRATEGIC SOLUTION
 Improving network infrastructure, creating cloud
computing environment.
 Removing in-house storing by using AWS cloud
computing which is the on demand delivery of
compute power, database storage ,applications ,
and other IT resources.
 Using cloud services platform via internet with
pay - as- you go pricing .
SUGGESTED FRAMEWORK
 Big basket is trying to challenge the local corner
stores by opening online kiosks which is still in
the planning stage. The idea is to install 10,000
machines over the next 24 months.
 These machines carry 24 to 48 products
depending on the size of the apartment complex.
 The objective of these kiosks is to increase the
frequency of buying by our customers.
 At big basket, with a technology-enabled
backend, the inventories are on rotation thrice a
month or 36 times a year.
 Big Basket is planning to start subscription
based delivery services: they are able to get a
hand on predictability per item, which can be
clubbed with high-frequency purchase, that can
make customers very sticky.
 Focusing more on the high order density which
helps achieve the unit of economics
CONCLUSION
 Online grocery business in India is rapidly
growing wherein everyone is looking for the
latest technologies and work that can be easily
done and Big Basket has rightly achieved all
these aspects
 Since its an online based company certain issues
were faced and Big Basket has taken better
initiatives to overcome these barriers
