OVERVIEW

Modern Art was created as the


answer to the challenge to produce art that
realistically depicts the various social
factors at the turn of the century. It is
characterized by the expressive use of color,
non-traditional materials and new
techniques and mediums.

CHARACTERISTICS OF IMPRESSIONISM
STYLE IN PAINTING :

1. It uses short brisk strokes of bright colors to


create impressionisms of light on the object that
is painted.
2. reflects of the experience upon the
consciousness of the artist and the audience.
3. It also a theory and school of art that produces
vividness, nature immediacy and the impression
made on the artist.
OSCAR CLAUDE MONET (1840- 1926)
He was one of the French Founders of
the Impressionist Movement. He rejected
the traditional approach to landscape
painting. Instead of copying, his style in
painting used variations of color and light
caused by seasonal changes.
He became one of the foremost
painters of landscape in the history of art.

EDVARD MUNCH (1863-1986)

Dadaism and developed in the

icon of the
Surrealist
movement.

minimal number of
forms and colors.
PERFORMANCE ART
Kind of art that combines visual art with dramatic performance
by the artist.
MARINA ABRAMOVICS
She is considered as the Grandmother of Performance Art.
HAPPENING ART
• Form of art that combines the elements of music, dance
and theater on stage or live action.
• In this type of art, the viewers never know where or when
a happening may occur.
