Competency 1
Competency 1.1
– Make ethical decisions by applying the standards of the NASW Code of Ethics,
relevant laws and regulations, models for ethical decision making, ethical
conduct if research, and additional codes of ethics as appropriate to context
– Carry a copy of the NASW Code of Ethics so when a dilemma does occur, I can
have a reference to make the best decision.
Competency 1.2
– Use practice experience and theory to inform scientific inquiry and research
– Look at data from Brunswick County compared to other counties in the state
– Number of reports, reports taken vs not taken, types of reports
Competency 4.2
– Use and translate research evidence to inform and improve practice, policy, and
service delivery
– Findings from Advocacy Project will help try and close gaps in research within
CPS

Competency 5.1
– Identify social policy at the local, state, and federal level that impacts well-
being, service delivery, and access to social services
– Reading and understanding the new manual with policy
Competency 5.2
– Assess how social welfare and economic policies impact the delivery and access
to social services
– Identifying and learning current agency policy and addressing any issues in the
policy
Competency 5.3
– Apply critical thinking to analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies that
advance human rights and social, economic and environmental justice
– Collaborate with agency workers on how to resolve identified social problems

Competency 6.1
– Collect and organize data and apply critical thinking to interpret information
from clients and constituencies
– Correctly use agency assessment tools such as safety plan and risk
assessments

– Negotiate, mediate, and advocate with and on behalf of diverse clients and
constituencies
– Participate in meetings to discuss strengths and weaknesses of clients
– Discussing how we work around barriers to try and achieve goals
