ABSTRACT

Cell discontinuous transmission (DTX) has been proposed as an effective

solution to reduce energy consumption of cellular networks. The impact of
network traffic load on spectral efficiency (SE) and energy efficiency (EE)
of cellular networks with cell DTX is determined.
OBJECTIVE

 The SINR distribution as a function of traffic load is derived firstly. Based

on the simplified SINR distribution, the network spectral and energy
efficiency as functions of network traffic load are derived.
INTRODUCTION

 The energy consumption of base stations accounts for almost 60% of all the
energy consumed by cellular networks.
 One approach to reduce energy consumption is cell DTX.
EXISTING SYSTEM

 The long-term traffic variation, for which the time scale is at level of
hours.

 The average traffic intensity varies from hour to hour.

DRAWBACKS OF EXISTING SYSTEM

• Intel cell interference occurs

PROPOSED SYSTEM

 Cell discontinuous transmission (DTx) method enables the base stations to

operate depends on traffic demand.
 It enables base stations to turn off power consuming components during idle
transmission time intervals.

DISCRIPTION

 The operation of cellular networks is considered by modeling the network.

 By considering the network traffic load, an SINR distribution can be

determined.
DISCRIPTION

 The steps involved in DTx method are,

1. Network Model
2. Power Consumption Model
3. Performance Analysis
NETWORK MODEL

 We consider the downlink transmission in a network where both the base

stations (BS) and the users are randomly distributed.

 The base stations are assumed to support cell DTX. They stay in sleep mode
during idle periods and switch into active mode when any traffic request is
detected.
POWER CONSUMPTION MODEL

 The base stations operate in two different modes:

the active mode and
the sleep mode.

 In the active mode, the base station power consumption is modeled as

below:
Pa = ξ Pt + Pc
PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS

 Firstly, the distribution of the downlink SINR as a function of traffic load is

derived.

 Then, the impact of traffic load on the spectral and energy efficiency are
separately analyzed.
SIMULATIONS
RESULTS
 Initially, Average SINR distribution as a function of traffic load is derived.
 Then, effect of traffic load on Spectral Efficiency (SE) is determined.
It is two types.
1. Average Link Spectral Efficiency
2. Average Area Spectral Efficiency.
 Finally, the impact of traffic load on Energy Efficiency (EE) is derived.
RESULTS

 Hence, the spectral efficiency (SE) increases monotonically in traffic load.

 The Energy efficiency (EE) increases monotonically with the traffic lopad
when the network is fully loaded. Otherwise, EE first increases and then
decreases in the traffic load.
ADVANTAGES

 Simplified SINR distribution, analytical expressions are obtained to

describe the impact of the network load on the performances, including link
spectral efficiency, network spectral and energy efficiency.
 The average link spectral efficiency decreases while the network spectral
efficiency increases.
CONCLUSION

 The relation between network performance and traffic load is derived using
cell DTx method.

 The effect of traffic load on the Spectral efficiency (SE), Energy efficiency

(EE) is determined.
FUTURE WORKS

 The impact of mode switching time and the corresponding traffic

dynamic on network energy efficiency is derived
