WIRELESS POWER

TRANSMISSION
What is Wireless Power
Transmission??
1. Transmission of electrical energy
without wires or any physical links.
2. Transmitter device is driven by electric
power from a power source generating a time
varying magnetic field which transmits power to
receiver, which extracts power from the field,
delivering it to the load.
3. Wireless power categories :-
• Near-field (short distances)
• Far field (long distances)
History of Wireless
Power
Transmission
• First demonstrated by Nikola
Tesla-“the pioneer of induction
techniques” in 1890’s

• Created the Tesla Coil to

transmit wireless electricity.

• The Tesla coil was a high voltage

resonance transmitter that
could produce high voltage at
high frequencies.
• Tesla was able to light 3 incandescent lamps at his
Colorado Springs Lab 30 m away using the tesla coil
without using wires.

• In order to implement his vision of “World Wireless

System", he constructed the Wardenclyffe Tower in
1902 with an aim to transfer electromagnetic energy
around the globe without the use of wires.

• But his efforts failed due to shortage of funds.

Advantages of
Wireless
Power
Transmission
1. Speed of Transmission

1.Faster transmission.
2.Speed of EM waves> speed of electrons.
2. Reliability

1.More reliable , more efficient.

2.No short circuit , no current leakage through wires.
3.Circuit sensitivity test ensures more reliability.
3. Simplistic Design and Usage

1.Less components required.

2. Easy to design.
3.Applications are user-friendly .
Car Battery Wireless Charging

1.Faster process .
2. Easy to handle .
4. Control of E-waste

1.Less components,wires .
2.Indirectly controls the e-waste
pollution.

Disadvantages of
Wireless
power
transmission
1. Capital Cost for practical implementation of
Wireless Power Transmission is very high.
2. The other disadvantage of the
concept is the interference of
microwave with present
communication systems.
3. HIGH POWER LOSS
4 . Inefficient in Long Distance
Transmissions
5. Alignment Problems
Future of Wireless
Power
Transmission
• WiTricity hotspots like Wi-Fi eliminate the need of
charging batteries or carrying adaptors all around.
• Transport systems to become wirelessly powered
thereby eliminating the necessity of fuel engines.
• Rise of Robotic Technology , working for 24
hrs,365 days.
• Charging of medical devices.
CONCLUSION
1. Transmission without wires .
2. Efficient.
3. Low maintenance cost , but high initial
cost.
4. Better than conventional wired transfer.
5. Energy crisis can be decreased.
6. Low loss.
7. In near future , world will be completely
wireless.
