the proper amount of
serving per food
category.
Students will be divided
into two groups and the
group who will get the
highest score will be the
winner.
Eat a
bread.
•Can you imagine
what happens to the
food as it was moved
through the digestive
tract?
FILL ME IN
ACTIVITY NO. __
Modelling a
Digestive System
•Gather materials
and lay out the
parts for the
digestive system.
•Place a beaker/
cup at the end.
Reminders: It will be
messy, make sure you
have newspaper under
and use rubber gloves or
plastic.
Note: The group who
will excrete the food
first will be the winner.
•You may start to put
the food and squeeze
out the feces!
QUESTIONS
•Based on the activity,
What represents the
materials that are
used? (please state
each material)
•Explainthe events that
happened to the food
as it makes its journey
from the mouth to the
anus?
Show a movie clip
titled, Journey of
the Digestive
System.
Ask the following
questions:
1. . Based on your
understanding of the
video, can you give the
different processes
involve in the digestion
of food?
2. Explain how each
process takes place in
the digestion of food?
3. Which do you
think is the most
important process
of digestion? Why?
Possible Answer;
For No. 1 and 2: Processes
Involved In Digestion and their
Explanations:
Ingestion – the process of taking
food into the body through the
mouth
Digestion- the process of
breaking up and dissolving
the food so that it can be
taken into the blood and
can be used by the body
Absorption – the process
by which digested
molecules of food are
absorbed through the
small intestines
Assimilation- the
movement of digested
food molecules into the
cells of the body where
they are used.
Elimination- discharging
feces, urine, or foreign
substances from the
body via defecation,
urination, and emesis
•Ifyou were asked by
your younger sister or
brother why a person is
being choked, how will
you explain it?
•After gaining
understanding about the
journey of food, are you
still going to buy street
foods like isaw? Why?
•How would you
conclude the function of
digestive system as the
food makes it journey
from mouth to the anus?
Answer: The digestive
system functions to break
down food into small
molecules so that they may
be absorbed into the
bloodstream.
Digestion starts when food is
taken into the mouth. This is
called ingestion. Food moves
from the pharynx to
esophagus.
Food in the esophagus is
moved down through the
digestive tract by waves of
muscular contractions
called peristalsis.
Digestions continues
within the stomach. Then
absorption of digested
food into the bloodstream
occurs through the cell that
line the small intestines.
Finally the undigested parts
of food or those that were
not absorbed by the body are
eliminated as feces through
anus. The process is called
elimination or defecation
