SOLUTION TO AIR POLLUTION

Name:
ID No:
INTRODUCTION
 Contamination of air either inside or outside is known as Air
pollution.

 Pollution is contaminating the atmosphere biologically,

chemically or physically.

 Harmful gases are risky for living and non- living things.

 Visible and Invisible air pollution are classifications of air

pollution.
TYPES OF POLLUTANTS
 Primary or secondary sources
are mainly the cause of air
pollutants. Example: direct
emission of dangerous gases
from factories.
 Secondary pollutants:
Combination or reaction of
primary pollutants. Example:
smog
CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION

 Fossil Fuels

 Cultivation

 Emission from factories

and industries

 Mining

 Indoor air contamination

EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION
 Respiratory and heart
complications

 Global warming

 Acid Rain

 Eutrophication

 Wildlife

 Exhaustion of Ozone
layer
SOLUTIONS FOR AIR POLLUTION

Technological solutions

 Power plants are now being improved by fitting electrostatic

smoke precipitators that will remove dirt and soot from these
toxins emitted in the air.

 Environmental friendly people can install heat-recovery

ventilators that use the locked in energy instead of going out
to warm the fresh incoming air.
Laws and regulations

 Various laws like the 1996 European Directive on Integrated

Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) endeavored to restrict
air and water pollution from industry.

 The Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution

(1979), has targeted at minimizing release of sulfur dioxide
from power plants.

 The Pollution Prevention Act in 1990 went a step further in not

allowing pollution to occur in the first place.
Raising awareness and changing behavior
 Conserve energy
 Use water appropriately
 Reduce usage of cars
 Avoid garden bonfires
 Do not burn household residue
 Organic gardening
 Stop using chemicals
 Recycling
 Quit smoking
CONCLUSION

o Since air toxins are widely spread, it’s vital we find solutions to
tackle air pollution rather than becoming the main cause of it.

o As solutions we can choose modes of transportation that

discharge less toxic chemicals. Also we can conserve energy.
Furthermore, our old things can be frequently recycled instead of
being thrown in trash.

o As mentioned earlier, air pollution if not curbed soon will have

harmful effects on human health and the Earth.
