What are some Fantasy Conventions?
What is Fantasy?
Fantasy film is a genre that incorporates
imaginative and fantastic themes. These
themes usually involve magic,
supernatural events, or fantasy worlds.
Although it is its own distinct genre,
these films can overlap into the horror
and science fiction genres. Unlike science
fiction, a fantasy film does not need to be
rooted in fact. This element allows the
audience to be transported into a new
and unique world. Often, these films
center on an ordinary hero in an
extraordinary situation.
a) Hero:
Most fantasies are centered around the
protagonist, who turns out to be the hero of
the film. The character is able to do more
than ordinary behaviour. They may have
powers physically, morally or both. Usually
at the beginning the protagonist does not
know what they are capable of, they then
find it difficult to adapt to there role as the
hero but they gradually grow into it.
b) Magic
In Fantasy films magic is often hidden in
fantasy worlds, or fantasy lands that can
connect to part of reality. The person who
uses magic is often a magician, sorcerer,
warlock, mage, wizard or another kind of
creature. Magic is a significant convention in
fantasy it is usually used by the most
common character. Magic can enhance the
power of a character, or an element such as a
magic sword or ring. Fantasies often include
a self-fulling prophecy. Magic is used in this
plot line to increase the audiences attention
and interest in towards the film.
PLOT

The movie is set in modern-day Europe, where witches and humans (fains) live
together. There are two primary types of witches: Black (Generally Oppressed
and written off as evil) and White(The main population). The 17-year-old
protagonist, Ajax, is half White and half Black. His mother is dead, and his
father is known as the most powerful and the cruelest Black Witch in the world.
Trapped in a cage and abused, Ajax has to escape before his seventeenth
birthday, when he will receive three gifts from his father and his magical ability,
or Gift. Otherwise, he will die.
The movie will follow Ajax as he attempts to escape, and later avoid capture,
from the White Witches' Council and find a way to receive his Gift with or
without the help of his father. Ajax receives help from a series of characters,
notably the Black Witch Nathaniel who has lost his powers due to an accident.
 CHARACTERS

• Ajax Blake: Protagonist

• Pandora: Ajax's oldest half-sister. She hates Nathan
• Eddie: Ajax's half-brother. Nathan and him have a
good relation.
• Adira: Ajax's half-sister. Similar relation to Arrans.
• Tulia Blake: Ajax's mother
• Mark: Ajax's father, the most feared Black Witch of
all time.
• Nathaniel: A Black Witch stuck in the body of a fain.
• Angela: A White Witch, some months older than
Ajax.
• Mercury: A powerful Black Witch
• Eve: A White Witch and Mercury's assistant.
• Margaret: A White Witch, Ajax's mentor who he
was sent to live with. Works in the White Witch
Council.
OPENING SCENE

• The opening scene will consist in Ajax narrating what happened in his past
as a flashback (from 8 to 16 years) and explaining who the characters in the
screen are and his relationship with them.
 First I will show Pandora telling stories about their mother, show her
hatred towards Ajax.
 Eddie and Adira will come in to protect and support Ajax. I will show ways
in which both of these characters care about Ajax.
 Then young Angela will secretly go out with Ajax
 Then, fast forward to when Ajax is a bit older and is living with Margaret,
briefly show how he is treated by the ‘White Witch Council’
 When the flashback is finished, Ajax will appear portraying how his life
has changed completely.
