Introduction
 Crash testing has been around since the early 1900 when
the number of vehicles on the road has risen to a level that
accidents started to occur to often and raised the question
of public safety.
Driving a car is a high in it self but safety is important
too choosing a safer car is very important to help prevent
crashes and accident
Crash tests are a way of ensuring safety by means of
destruction, in the automotive industry, impact tests
between cars are performed to analyse the damaged caused
by the impact forces at certain velocities. A vehicles
crashworthiness is determined by the capability of its
structure to protect its occupants in case of an impact.
Need Of Crash Testing
 automotive power and performance have increased, a
number of safety features have helped to lowered the
number of deaths from car accidents each year.
 Air bags, antilock breaks ,and seatbelt usage have all
helped to protect the vehicle's passengers. Despite these
features, car accident deaths and injury rates are still very
high.
 It seems that as soon as car designers come up with new
systems to protect passengers, people find new ways to
injure themselves on the road.

OF CRASH TESTING
Principle Of Crash Testing
 • Automotive safety : reducing the relative velocity
between the occupants and the vehicle interior to
reduce the risk of injury to the occupant during a
collision
 • Newton’s Laws : change in an occupant’s velocity
requires a force to be applied to the occupant
 • Safety engineers analyze the maximum force applied
to the driver or passenger without injury
Energy Absorbing Materials
• Energy-
absorbing (EA)

benefits.
Barrier Design
 The barrier is made of a steel plate .
 Thickness of 38.1 mm, it’s 1000 mm wide.
 Radius on the right edge Is 115 degrees arc.
 Height is 1524 mm from the floor .
 Mass is 145,150 kg.
Type Of Crash Testing
 Simulating every accident type is impossible, which is
why there are number standardized crash test .(which
may resemble most of the crashes that may take place)
 The three crash test are conducted
1) Frontal crash test,
2) Side impact crash test,
3) offset crash test.
Frontal-Impact Test
Frontal-impact test
It’s the most common type of
test, the
vehicle is sent at a certain speed
into a
solid wall made of concrst
Thefrontal impact test uses a
deformable barrier to imitate
the mass of another vehicle and
it is deducted at a speed of 64
km/ h ete.
Side Impact Test
 This test is performed at a
speed of 50 km/h. It uses a
vehicle structure with an
impact barrier mounted on
the front, and sent into the
side of the vehicle. The
positioning of the vehicle is
represented in
Offset Crash Test
In this test only one area
of the front of the
vehicle is impacted into
a wall, the forces remain
just like in the frontal
impact, but only an area
of the vehicle has to
absorb the shock.

Advantages
 To reduce human injuries .
 To increases safety of vehicle.
 To provide more safety to passengers' and driver.
Disadvantages
 To increases cost of vehicle.
 Testing cost is high.
 It is distructive testing.
Application
 It can used in automobile sector.
Conclusion
 In the modern world, motor vehicle crash tests have
become essential, to the car manufacturers, to further
increase the safety of both the occupants of the
vehicle,
