By Ankita Ramtirthkar Kapse M.E EXTC,SEM III. Guide: Prof.V.R.Koli Outline • Introduction to IoT • Proposed system • Implementation • Brief discussion on related work • Result • Conclusion • Future work Introduction • The IOT is generally considered as connecting objects to the Internet and using that connection for control of those objects or remote monitoring. • The interconnected objects collect the data at regular intervals, analyze and used to initiate required action. • The concept of IOT stands on sensors, gateway and wireless network which enable users to communicate and access the application/information. • Among all the regions no place does the IOT offer more prominent guarantee than in the field of health awareness. Proposed system • The main idea of the designed system is to continuous monitoring of the patients over internet. • It measures the patient heart rate and temperature constantly • This innovation created period where web administers the world gives a thought to add to another keen health awareness framework where time to time constant checking of the patient is accomplished. Implementation • Block diagram GSM MOBILE LCD 16*2 GSM MODEM Temperature Sensor MAX232 (DS18S20) PIC BUZZER 18F46K22 Pulse Oximeter MAX232 Sensor
• 1024 bytes of EEPROM • PIC18F46K22 is 40pin plastic dual-in-line package. • The main feature is high performance RISC CPU, Adaptable oscillator structure, and Extreme low power management with XLP. Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) 16X2
• Liquid crystal display is very important device in embedded system
• It is very common for screen industry to use LCD replacing Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT). Pixels are used for most flexible ones. • The LCD display is used for displaying the patient body temperature and heart rate. • It is a 16 pins LCD display which is powered up with 5V dc supply. Here it is interfaced with microcontroller. GSM Modem • GSM MODEM operates by accepting the SIM card • It operates over network to send and receive message. • GSM uses AT commands in order to send, receive, write or delete messages Wi-Fi Module (ESP8266) • This module works on 3.3V voltage range. • It works on serial communication. • This module has six pins. • ESP8266 wifi module responds to “AT” commands. • AT+ UART_DEF = 9600, 8,1,0,0 .This command is used to set baud rate of ESP8266 wifi module to 9600 permanently. Temperature Sensor (DS18S20)
• DS18S20 is 1-wire digital thermometer which gives measurement of
9-bit Celsius temperature and incorporates alert capacity. • It contains central processor with only one data line for establishing communication. • Operates at the temperature range of -10ᵒC to +85ᵒC. Pulse Oximeter Sensor
• Pulse oximetry is a simple technique to monitor the amount of
haemoglobin that is oxygen saturated. • Oximeter measures number of hearts beat per unit of time which is usually conveyed in bits per minute(Bpm). • MCP6004 based pulse oximeter is used which is designed and TCRT1000 reflective IR optical sensor is used for photoplethysmography (PPG). MAX232 • Max232 is a dual driver/receiver which converts TTL level to RS232 level. • With a MAX232 IC you can easily connect your PIC microcontroller to your PC • These receivers usually has the threshold of 1.3v and can accept +/- 30v of supply. Piezo Electric Buzzer • Buzzer is an electronic device used to produce sound. • Buzzer is used to alert the caretaker during extreme condition. This sound indicates that the patient health is in risk. Software used • Embedded C Programming • MPLAB IDE v8.92 • Proteus 7.0 ISIS Professional • DIPTRACE • Hi-Tech C Compiler • Hyper text mark-up language How it works • SIM detection process is performed and SIM detected is indicated on LCD display has “SIM PRESENT” • Configuring of Wi-Fi is done and is indicated on LCD display has “CONFIGURE WIFI” on first line and after configuration process done is indicated by “OK” message on second line of LCD display. • IP address and port number is requested and displayed on LCD display has “ip : 192.168.4.1” on 1st line and “port is :80K” on 2 nd line. • Then configuration settings is complete and system comes to online and LCD display changes to “IOT HEALTH CARE” How it works • Temperature is measured and indicated on second line of LCD display has “TEMPERATURE ” • Next step is synchronizing of heart rate and it is indicated on LCD display has “SYNC HEARTRATE” • Then Pulse count start for 15seconds and indicated on LCD display has “PULSE” in first line and total calculated heart rate in second line “HEARTRATE BPM” Now the message has to be sent to the doctor through Wi-Fi cloud which is indicated has “OK” in second line of LCD display. Applications of IOT IN HEALTH CARE • Hearables-Doppler Labs is the most suitable example of it. • Ingestible sensors-Ingestible sensors are genuinely a modern-science marvel. These are pill-sized sensors which monitor the medication in our body and warns us if it detects any irregularities in our bodies. These sensors can be a boon for a diabetic patient as it would help in curbing symptoms and provide with an early warning for diseases. • Proteus Digital Health is one such example. • Moodables-Moodables are mood enhancing devices which help in improving our mood throughout the day. Application in health care industry • Computer vision technology-Computer vision technology along with AI has given rise to drone technology which aims to mimic visual perception and hence decision making based on it. • Healthcare charting-IoT devices such as Audemix reduce much manual work which a doctor has to do during patient charting. It is powered by voice commands and captures the patient’s data. It makes the patient’s data readily accessible for review. It saves around doctors’ work by 15 hours per week. APPLICATIONS OF IoT • Internet of things applications • Home automation . • Wearable technology which includes smart watches, fitness trackers, VR headsets • Environment • Utilities • Logistics • Infrastructure • Manufacturer • Medical and Healthcare • Retail • BANK Benefits of Iot • Simultaneous reporting and monitoring • End-to-end connectivity and affordability • Data assortment and analysis • Tracking and alerts • Remote medical assistance challenges • Data security & privacy-Cybercriminals can misuse patient’s data to create fake IDs to buy drugs and medical equipment which they can sell later. Hackers can also file a fraudulent Insurance claim in patient’s name. • Integration: multiple devices & protocols-the variety of devices are connected; the difference in their communication protocol complicates and hinders the process of data aggregation. This non- uniformity of the connected device’s protocols slows down the whole process and reduces the scope of scalability of IoT in healthcare. challenges • Data overload & accuracy-concern is rising as more devices are connected which record more and more data. he amount of data is so tremendous that deriving insights from it are becoming extremely difficult for doctors which, ultimately affects the quality of decision- making. • Cost Conclusion • In this work the MCP6004 based Pulse oximeter is designed and DS1820B temperature sensor is used to read the temperature and heart rate of the patient and the microcontroller picks up the data and send it through ESP8266 Wi-Fi protocol. • The data is also sent to the LCD for display so patient can know his health status. • During extreme conditions to alert the doctor warning message is sent to the doctor’s cell phone through GSM modem connected and at the same time the buzzer turns to alert the caretaker. • The doctors can view the sent data by logging to the html webpage using unique IP and page refreshing option is given so continuously data reception achieved. Hence continuous patient monitoring system is designed. Future work • The Future work of the project is very essential in order to make the design system more advanced. • In the designed system the enhancement would be connecting more sensors to internet which measures various other health parameters and would be beneficial for patient monitoring i.e. connecting all the objects to internet for quick and easy access. • Establishing a Wi-Fi mesh type network to increase in the communication range • Substantial R&D efforts have been made in IoT-driven healthcare services and applications. Various research activities concerning how the IoT can address paediatric and elderly care, chronic disease supervision, private health, and fitness management for deeper insights into industry trends and enabling technologies.
