Preparing for Mentoring
 Six things to consider;
 What do you want to gain from the mentoring
relationship?
 What do you have to offer in terms of Knowledge, skills
and experience.
 How frequently will you meet?

 What will be the form of contact, will it be in person or


by other methods e.g email, skype etch
 How long will the mentoring partnership last?

 What is the meaning of confidentiality in the mentoring


relationship?

 What can be influenced through mentoring?

 What aspects are you prepared to do something


about?
 What is the benefit of taking action?

achieved i.e what will be the indicators of

1. NOTE-TAKING
A mentoring logbook is a great tool for note taking, always
have a mentors logbook and a mentees logbook.
 The logbook is important;
 Memory aid; helps the mentors document the agreed actions
with the mentee and helps the mentee document the process in
implementing the agreed actions
 Reflection; the logbook records aid reflection and managing
feedback.
 Monitoring progress; enables review of action to determine
progress
 Administration; managing schedules and mentoring process
 Learning; keeping a record of learnings and progress
