 PHYSICAL CHANGES:
• It only changes the appearance (texture, size, shape).
• No new materials are formed.

 CHEMICAL CHANGES:
• It involves a chemical reaction, includes the changes
of colour, temperature, smell, and bubbles might
show up.
• New materials are formed.
Physical change

Chemical change
• REVERSIBLE CHANGES:
The materials can be changed back into their original
forms.
• flat balloon → expanding balloon → flat balloon
• NON-REVERSIBLE CHANGES:
The materials cannot be changed back into their original
forms.
• flat balloon → expanding balloon → broken balloon
• paper → ash
EXPERIMENT 1 RESULT:
Carrot
Shape before sliced A whole carrot
Shape after sliced Smaller size of carrot (sliced carrot)
Is a new material formed? No
Is the change chemical or physical? Physical
Can it go back to its original form? No
Why can it happen? Because it is non-reversible
EXPERIMENT 2 RESULT:
Candle wax
Appearance before heating Candle wax flakes (solid)
Appearance after heating Liquid candle wax
Appearance after left cool Solid candle wax
Is a new material formed? No
Is the change chemical or physical? Physical
Can it go back to its original form? Yes
Why can it happen? Because it is reversible
EXPERIMENT 3 RESULT:
Baking soda and vinegar
What happened when the materials are Bubbles are produced,
mixed? The liquid gets colder
Is a new material formed? Yes

Is the change physical or chemical? Chemical

Can they go back to their original forms? No

Why can it happen? Because it is non reversible

Physical Change Chemical Change

Reversible Non-reversible Reversible Non-reversible

Melting ice cream Peeling oranges Metal rusting

Molding clay Cutting hair Fireworks exploding

Folding clothes Sharpening pencils

Digging soil
